I have a dent in one of my header pipes. The dent reduces the diameter of the pipe by about 25%. How bad is that? The power of the motor appears to be not affected. Should I replace the headers? What do you think?
I had an old GPz 750 in the 90's, and it took a pretty good dent to the header from a pissed off speed bump in a parking lot.
I took the pipe off and took it down to a "good" auto exhaust shop. The guy (probably the owner) spot welded on some rods, heated up the area and pulled out the dent then grinded the rods off. (It actually looked really good when he was done) If I remember right it was about $25.00. The finish was toast in that area, but 25 bones and a can of header paint was a hell of alot cheaper than a new pipe.
