How are you people getting these cheap insurance rates?

I'm 21, riding 1 year on a 500, now when I want to go up to a 600 GSX-R my rates jump to 6-7k per year.... That's basic too.

Help!
Where are you in Canada? GTA I'm guessing? A lot of young SS riders here drive without insurance for the very reason that they pay more for insurance than the cost of the bike. Not recommended, but at the same time, who can blame them?

OP... Looks like you might have to wait a few years before you can buy an SS.
Get an SV and ride the shit out of it or a couple of years and your insurance will drop significantly once you turn 25.

Right now I'm paying 145/month for full coverage with fire and theft on a GSX-R 750 K6.

It's a ton of money compare to what some of the US riders are paying, but it's the cheapest I found, I'm happy.

EDIT: FAIL... didn't realize this thread was 4 years old. lol

Calgary - reasonable $135/yr for liability & AB; $750 for full comp coverage at TD (formerly Primmum). 50+, no tickets. Also Blue Circle has good rep for cost.
Could be much worse....I understand Saskatchewan is trying to terminate motorcycle ownership - proposing increasing their mandated govt insurance from $1100/yr for 86 1100 sportbike to $1300/yr. No ability to reduce coverage - everyone has same. Media has complaints from those who are quoted $5300/yr for a newish Duc.

This is how my insure works here in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Heres my quote for full insurance( collision, theft, vandalism, the works )

See the you only pay during riding season line? So the yearly total for me with no deductions is 2804. If I want to pay that monthly I have to pay it within the riding season which is May 1 to Sept 1 making the monthly payments $500+. The bike does remain insured all year round so If you got some warm days in February you could technically pull the bike out and drive it legally.

You poor socialist!
In Alberta we also pay seasonally - Mar-Sept 7mo. I dropped All Perils in 2011 at $528/yr since my bikes aren't worth all that much so my coverage of $1mm Third Party Liability, Accident Benefits and SEF44 Family Protection/uninsured coverage = $221/yr on a GSXR1000K5. So the most I'd pay for complete coverage is about $750-800/yr for a GSXR1000 now.

Its very true, I got a ton of buddies that end up riding uninsured cause the fines here in the GTA for no insurance is approx. $1000.00, if you compare its still cheaper like you said to get pulled over 2-3x with no insurance then pay the ridiculous amounts some companies quote. :hammer

Holy crapper. And everyone screams about the rate in BC. Wow. I have full collision and comprehensive in BC with beacon insurance for 240 a year and carry my liability with ICBC (cause I have to) for 5million for 560 for 7 months so yeah under a grand a year. See if you have beacon or intact or maybe Canadian direct.
