I have an '87 1052 GSXR engine in need of an entire clutch basket, springs and plates. I also need a starter idler gear and pin.

I have been all over the web including BikeBandit, Ron Ayers, etc. and I have not been able to find replacement parts for my clutch. I get all kinds of "not available" or "discontinued item" messages. I cannot believe that an item as common as oem clutch parts are not availble for this motor. I am looking for oem but would even consider an aftermarket clutch so long as it is reasonably priced. Please help with names and links or offers...Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean. I am getting similar messages when checking for parts that should be in stock, let alone have to special order.

My latest example is the O ring for the alternator where it attaches to the crankcase. I wonder if they ae truly not made anymore, or there database is not totally up to scratch. A trip to a dealer will probably resolve the issue..??

Did you try Orient Express? If they don't have it in their cat, give them a phone call. I found the guy on the other end to be very knowledgeable and obliging.

Also, though some have problems with Barnett, I haven't. Though I doubt they have the baskets.

Good luck

I don't know if I can help you out here but...my 86' 750 blew up yesterday. If the clutch from the 750 will work in your 1052, I might be willing to sell you some parts. I'm sure the clutch/clutch basket is ok. Let me know if our interested.

I wouldn't mess about trying old bits if you can get OEM at a decent price.
Who says that pre-owned 15 year old stuff won't fail frist time out and cost you even more ?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Well Dwayne, the only clutch that ever slipped on me was my OEM one. After installing the Barnett friction plates and both their springs, no slippage in 4th and 5th while nailing it. And this with the bike still fairly new (only about 8,000km). The stocker had been slipping (obviously only slightly, but too much for me) in the top gears while high speed running since new - never off the line etc.

Hey Ricks750,

I gues it must depend on what Suzuki dealer you visit. I went down to mine about a week ago.

To start with, the parts CD ROM they use had diagrams and part numbers for the starter motor under the alternator directory, as well as in the correct starter motor category..!! DOH..

So, they next went to the microfiche in the backroom. Still no joy.

Next, they're on the phone to someone (no idea who), but they get this part #. Turns out it was the right number and they even had it in stock..

I think it cost me about $2.40. I can give you the part # number if you like, bearing in mind that my bike is a 1993 model.

Dave....
