For 88ish gsxr or katana, parts listing shows two fiber clutch disks 2 of #21442-48b00 for innermost and outermost position and 9 of #21441-48b00 for the rest. White paint spots on the special ones. Does anyone know the difference between the two? No explanation in the shop manual . No help at the dealership. can the special ones be used to replace the non special ones?

let me get this right...you've got 2 different numbers for the fiber plates? You're not confusing the fiber plates (clutch plates) and the DRIVEN plates? That can be easy to do if you're looking at just the microfiche or a parts book.

The clutch (fiber) plates should number one less than the driven (all metal) plates. The driven plates also should show little signs of wear, but they can distort (warp). Check either a PARTS UNLIMITED or a TUCKER-ROCKEY catalogue at a dealer to see wat the replacement number is from EBC or BARNETT for clutch plates.

I'm not sure if you can get driven plates from anyone other than the dealer. But you shouldn't need them either, unless your clutch is very high milage or has seen hard/racing starts.
