HI guys,
I've got a 2004 1000 with 21000 miles. For awhile, maybe the last 5000 miles I'm not 100% sure, when I start off slow, with some revs but slow clutch engagement, sometimes the clutch makes a sudden hard grab, with a real strange whiny grinding noise, and a thud when it engages, and of course a nice lurch of the bike. Then all is fine. Might be a week or more before it does it again, or maybe next light. Lever is adjusted fine, engage/disengage points are fine. No other clutch issue that I have noticed. Any ideas? Time for a new clutch? Everything or just plates? Thanks for the advice!

I have a similar problem with my K6 1000 took it to the shop and they told me it was a washer inside of the clutch that gets bent.. So to eliminate the problem the mechanic said he would put all new plates to eliminate the washer price 223.00. Picked the bike up yesterday still the same when rev off the line feels like something is grabbing and making a loud noise. Anybody have any suggestions???

I have a K5 and for YEARS it's been grabbing in exactly the way you mentioned. Especially after the bike comes up to normal operating temp. I followed the advice of another on this forum and purchased Brock's Ultra Light Billet Clutch Mod Kit GSX-R1000 (05-06). This fixed the issue. Nice smooth clutching now.
