He has an identical post on gsxr.com.

Dow Corning 735 is commonly available if you want to try sealing it. They say that their 3-0100 has better adhesion and oil resistance at the price of a temperature limit of 350°F instead of 400°F . But it's hard to find.

I guess you could tell if it's filthy if you lean the bike over enough for oil to run up against the window. But I'd think that it would have to be leaned fairly far. Don't see how to check the level there, i.e. the bike needs to be level and I wouldn't expect the oil level to be visible then. Or is that window bigger than I realize? You could also tell if it's moving but it's right next to the generator rotor. Something would be seriously wrong if it wasn't.

I've always considered them to be in the same category as neon lights and sound systems.
