I have a set of slingshot wheels that im going to put on my 86 1100.I was wondering if it was better to chrome them or polish them?Ive heard some stories about the chroming weakening the wheels. As far as polishing the wheel,is there anything you can put on them to keep from repolishing them all the time? Thanks for the advise.

Personally, I think polished looks much better. Upkeep isn't that big a deal. I go over mine with Mothers alum polish every once in a while and just keep a coat of wax on them.
Polishing the wheels (if you plan on doing it yourself) is kind of a PITA. I put about 12-15 hours into each of my Katana's wheels. The big plus is that, if you get any scratches, like from changing tires, you can just wet sand/polish them out. If you get a good scratch on a chromed wheel, live with it.
This is how I did mine, but there are several different ways to go about it. It depends on what you have available, like a compressor.

As I polish in the winter as a side job I can tell you that Polished wheels look much better. They have a nicer color than the Chrome. Also have you noticed that no plater will offer a warranty on the Chrome over two years? That is about how long it takes before the Chrome starts to peel off alum. Some people have had it last longer but they are the exeption not the rule.
