Where is it located? is it true that it's integrated in the muffler? In that case even fitting a slip-on without remapping would hurt the engine by leaning the a/f ratio right??

l mean, the cat converter is the biggest restriction for the exhaust airflow and the one that creates the most back pressure in the system, so removing the canister alone would turn the whole system into a free flow exhaust and a ECU flash is required

Please let me know your thoughts about this matter, l am worried about installing a slip on without proper ECU tune.

IMHO these bikes are tuned to run best on stock setups, unless you have sufficient mods then really no point.. the 05 has a massive cat muffler, I left it, liked its sound and dint have to map or anything.. surely it had plenty of power for the streets, didn't run into any problems on the track either aside from keeping the front end down coming off 1st and 2nd gear turns.. jumped on the triple tree for a sec.. lol

flapper valve creates the most back pressure, cats are fairly free flowing, cats create minimal back pressure but are noise damping... with closed loop FI I wouldn't mess with any of it.. just me tho, I figger its all tuned as a system and it all talks to the ECU for optimal mix under all conditions, remove one component it might throw it off slightly?

these bikes need a full system to run correctly - you will gain as much as 8 hp @ 8000 rpm depending on exhaust/tuning. the stock exhaust even gutted causes a dip between 6-10k. the rear flapper is for noise - not backpressure. the manufactures will tell you otherwise.

the front flapper does open and creates a larger volume but the stock exhaust is very heavy with all of the added crap. - even a decent stainless system will save 10-15lbs of weight.

I cut my Cat open gutted it and welded it back up , left the valve in when its fully open cant be causing much back pressure . Then I cut off the 50 mm pipe at the can end made it 60mm all the way to the Yoshi slip on sounds completely different stuck a MWR filter and a Woolich map ,goes well now.

Thank you for your answers, l was just trying to justify Suzuki for that bazooka style exhaust muffler, thinking the cat was built into it, now l realize it makes no sense at all.

look at the 2021 Hayabusa muffler, the 2005-06 gsxr1000 Muffler is basically the same, cut one in half..

here is the 21 Busa muffler, these are very similar to the 05-06 mufflers, 2000 euro II cats were mandated and Suzuki began to implement to meet sound regulations in 2005.. and earlier in other countries they installed non regulatory cats much like these in the new Busa..

yup, cut one open you will see the 05-06 has a small cat just like the one in new Busa..

after the gentleman's agreement DOT's began cracking down on emissions for bikes in an effort to get them to slow down.. in 2008 or 9 it became LAW all motorcycles sold in the USA certain sizes needed to have cats, Suzuki again getting ahead of the curve, notice how Suzuki implemented several designs exploring the anticipated law?

the 21 Busa has a very sophisticated emissions set up to adopt E5 regulations, 3 cats, 1 flapper valve, 2 O2 sensors, 2 injectors and a ton of wiring and sensors, the most sophisticated to date of any bike I am aware of in its class.. these mufflers are a lot like the gen31k, save the 1k muffler was full ti where the 21 Busa are stainless..

Hello, I have a 2020 GSX-R1000R, thinking about flashing it through Unlimited, which is supposed to be very good in the flashing dept. My bike came stock with a slip on from the factory. Was thinking about full Titanium and block off plates. Unlimited told me they had a flash for it and should bump it up to 15-20HP. Spoke with Revzilla and found out I can loose around 15 or more pounds with the full Titanium and new battery. Going to be over $2,000.00 for the complete job and was wondering if any owner of the same bike did something different? We track at Fontana which has a nice straight to make up a second or two. Plus the bike will run like it was designed to when it was manufactured. Any thoughts on my situation?
Thank You
Joe

I can say, with a full Arrow Competition Evo 2, Superbikes Unlimited Flash and MWR WSBK filter, you'll get right around 193 HP and 85 lbft torque. I have swapped out the lead acid for lithium, but did not weigh the battery or exhaust. I have the Driven pair block offs as well. Blockoffs won't give you extra hp, but it is a little bit of weight reduction.

Check out the Brock's Performance GSX-R1000 build series on Youtube. Great info there.

Make up a second or two on the main straight. That's what I like to hear, HOLD IT ON ! 😁
Seriously though, this is where us mere mortals (amateur) can make up time. Pro's don't use the brakes. 🤣
