Have 89 750 Slingshot, the carb assembly has two breather tubes coming off the bottom...do those actually go anywhere or are they just hanging around?

i just left them open, seemed to be ok....

on my 88 1100 the two breather hoses come off the top and loop over the frame and then end

the jet kit instructions says to remove them, but I think I will do something else, since then are on the top of the carb and easily fouled

I've read in a couple of places that the tubes are there to protect the float bowls from sudden changes of air pressure (with a consequent change in mixture strength)
Seems to make sense to me.
