Does anyone know if the Cam Chain Tensioner was a factory recall for the 1998 Gixxers? Just curious.

Well the recall site where I got alot of my info is gone now

I don't *think* every one was covered though. Mine was for a while because it kept blowing them so much.

Do yourself a favor and get a manual one if yours is clicking. Problem solved as Freak says

Is changine to the manual cct fairly simple?

I've recently had some pretty big oil leaks, one of which involved the cam chain retention bolt and its grommet. Since then (two days ago) I've noticed my bike is making a lot more "ticking" noise than it was.

Is changing to the manual cct as simple as :

remove the auto

bolt on the manual, and grommet,

tighten to spec (whatever that is?)

Do you need to rip the valve cover off?

thanks

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I would take the valve cover off so you can be sure that the chain is tensioned right. They actually provide a bit of instructions with the APE tensioner.

Phinsup also did a detailed write up on how to change over from the auto. Head to the Faq and take a looky in there

It is pretty simple though
