Hate when people act like they're talented enough for a 600 even. I acknowledge that I would be better on a smaller bike, but on the streets I see many people who ask why I didn't get a 1k. As if the 600 wasn't enough!!! It seems like everybody with a sportbike likes to act like they're neo in the matrix, but all they can do is slam through gears in a straight line or Do power wheelies.

pretty fast, especially considering how many brake markers he missed
There is a difference here, on the road you can't risk making up for loss of power by not braking until later unless you want to die... for example if you approach a set of lights just keeping it nailed at 60mph past the cars isn't a good approach and you need to slow down in case one of them pulls out. Once the road is clear you can accelerate away again.

You know what's even better than relying on power? Riding strategically and alert. Then you won't have to power out of any situations :thumbup

Now don't get me wrong, I love the power of my 600 and 106CI V-Twin... But I don't need either in order to be a safe rider.

I never said you needed the power to be safe, you would just ride differently (slower).

I race 250 gp bikes... people who have never raced against one have no idea what they can do...
Very hard to get the most out of, but when you figure it out they are the best bikes out there. A little shot coming across the rail lines of a pretty well known road race :)
Bad ass for sure ... start another thread with pics , many members would be keen !!!:punk

I'm fast, but also experienced enough to know I'm not "that" fast. But watch any of my track videos. You'll see a common theme. I get roasted in the straights and by turn 2, I'm back on their ass. I feel like I'm maxing out my 600, but I also know there's more speed there to find. I'd love to try out a 300 on the track.

Great post and video and a good thread about how capable and fun small bikes are. I love how a lot of people are agreeing that it takes a lot of skill to ride a little bike that fast and its a great starting point. When I started racing I chose the SV 650 as a good all around bike to begin on and it was so much fun. My plan was to ride the thing as fast as I felt it could go before moving up to a 600cc. It could go in so many different classes that I had a ton of races and experience, plus it was way cheaper to race than a 600. I got a lot of great practice time and really had to hone in my riding skills on the little bike before moving up....then I felt ready for the power and was able to translate the skills.

What do you think are the biggest differences between riding a big bike vs a smaller bike? Are the fundamentals and techniques ALL the same or are there some differences?

Just my opinion but the new 250s have taken a few steps backward the early 90s 250s were so much better built and faster they rave about the new zxr 250 because it redlines at 17000 rpm wow the early 90s one reclined at 19000 rpm just like the early cbr 250rr that was also a 4 cylinder 4stroke redlined at 19k also here is a pic of my old 1 mini blade
