Nice shots. starboys kick ass....i just did first burnout the other day also and being a student i am also poor but i had to be sure i could do it on demand this summer. I have been riding a while and it was almost second nature to burn it. Took one try just keeping the revs high.

It's all good! Burnouts are ok, and I agree that they are not really a stunt, but like them regardless, and when a person is starting to explore their bike and their own capabilities, they are a great place to start.

Keep up all the great posts, I love reading then trying out all of your all's techniques if they make sense of course.

Peace and twisties,

Jason

this is a good post. yet an expensive hobby. i will practice more when my tire is more worn. i have tried it a few times and it is erie as hell. especially after watching LVX2. that guy that hit the camper doing a burnout- damn, that was harsh. makes you think when it starts to turn. i
those who got the rolling
down. peace.

I'm not gonna waste words telling everyone why i'm not a squid, I CAN do burnouts, rollers, half-decent donuts, etc.
A buddy of mine, who wanted to learn to burn, was a little squeamish about wasting rubber and money. He asked me what kind of surface could eliminate this, like perhaps grass?
I told him to buy the starboyz vid...
However, It made me wonder, has anyone ever tried to learn burnouts on grass? Personally, I don't need a pile of dirt forming under my tail, but for a beginner it would probably solve many problems. It would save you rubber, learning to clutch would be easier as long as the front tire stays put, and balancing rollers and circles would probably be pretty easy, and if you fall your bike stays fine!

What do you guys think?
Or, is my over-active imagination just over-retarded?

Thanks dudes!

I don't think grass is a good idea, the front tire won't grip at all

I remember when I had my first streetbike when I was 15, I "tried" to practice on grass and I would fall over all the time, I just took the bike on the pavement and everything was smooth

I've only tried burnouts a few times; I'm also $$$-conscious and don't want to waste all my rubber (rather use it at the track). Usually on pavement, I'll let the clutch out very cautiously, the revs will dip way down and the tire won't slip. Then I start to smell something (or maybe I just THINK I'm smelling something), get paranoid about my clutch and give up.

I did start out with burnouts on a dirt road (front tire was on pavement though). Didn't learn much that way though since rear slippage was way too easy.

you could have the front tire on a sidewalk or something???
but who wants to tear up their front yard?
do it at your neighbors house

Hey guys, I've been trying to get my back tire spinnin' lately but for some reason everytime i do get the back wheel loose my bike begins to lowside to the right and I have to prevent it from tipping over. I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the bike straight forward...any tips as to what im doin wrong? Thanks!
