I've heard of "bottoming out." What moron hasn't? Don't answer that one! Anyway, when I go over a speed bump or a sharp bump in the road, my front shocks absorb the intitial impact well. But on the back side of the bump, when the shock is rebounding, I get a really strong noise, and a feeling that the shocks are "topping out." Like they're over-extending.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm a moron on suspension adjustment, and I've read all the articles that are posted on suspension adjustment. I tried to set some things. Everyone says something like, ..."3 clicks out..." Nothing clicked on my bike. Not a thing. Is this "click" a literal click? I got nothing.

INcrease rebound damping ?

I just experiment and find a good comprimise for the [shitty] roads we have in Sydney.

The SRAD bike's adjustments arent "clicks". We just count the turns, 1/4, 3/4, full turn out, etcetc.

Naturally, the "clicks" setup is easier to record and compare, so they're used on the new generation Gixxers. I dunno about TL's....

Doh, I'm a spaz... I read the question this time

Yeah more rebound sounds good... How fast are you hitting the speed bumps??!?! I think the adjuster you're after is the small screw at the top of each fork. Turn both of them a little (1/8 at a time?) clockwise... Make sure they are set the same though...

BTW-I thnk the stock settings are 1 1/8th turns from hardest (clockwise). So turn both screws in until they stop and then turn 'em back out 1 1/8th full turns and make changes from there. Anyone confirm??

set your bike up like this for a good baseline setting

front-
static sag: 25mm
compression: 1.5 turns out
rebound: 1.75 turns out
preload: 2 rings showing
fork height: 3mm above triple clamp

rear-
static sag: 6mm
preload: ?
compression: 2.25 turns out
rebound: 1.5 turns out

these setting are from Performance Bikes magazine
i set my bike up similar and it made a nice improvement
keep in mind these are baseline settings!

How much do you weigh, HouseDJ?

And it's less than 5mph on the speed bumps.

I tried increasing the damping on the shocks. Must have been too much, 'cause I started having a really hard time bouncing a standup in 2nd after that.

More patience & experimentation, I guess.

House.. What you posted doesnt make sence... You can not tell someone to set sag at Xmm and then tell them to have X number of bars showing... Im not saying that you had the problem, but what they say would only work if you fall into the wieght that they used...

The valves dont really change very much from wieght..

The question is how much do you wiegh and how hard do you ride. When was the last time you had the shock serviced?

The top out cup works on oil. and if the oil is thin, it will have this problem.

If you are 215lbs you will never get the bike to ride CORRECT. You can get it nice. But you really should get new springs to make the bike ride correct... At 215 lbs you should have a 60lb per inch spring in the front and a 425 spring in the rear... You would not even believe the difference it would make.

Also, if you really want to rear of the bike to handle sweet, you can revalve it... If you want more info on a great price for that, let me know... That is one of the things that we do for people and at a great price..

Hey house... Try setting your sag to 30mm front and rear... It will make the bike ride real nice for stock....

As far as the clicks, 1 click is about 1/8 of a turn... You should adjust in 1/8 turn settings.
