Hey guys
Want to run 100% full synthetic AMSOIL 20W50

which one should I get

The high performance 20w50 which says good for diesels too so..... thinking not good for the seals....

or the 20W50 v twin for motorcycles

any info will help

Get the v twin for motorcycles. Tis what I use, works great.

And I don't think it is V-Twin specific oil...I think Amsoil just uses an image of a V-Twin on their motorcycle oil.

No slipping clutch problems right?

I just got my 03 1000 last week

the guy ran motul full synthetic 10w40

its overpriced and I want the 20w50

Thanks for the info Ill go buy some tomorow

Clutches slip when you use "energy conserving" car oils with friction modifiers that don't play nice with a motorcycle's wet clutch.


Which Amsoil motorcycle oil obviously is not.

Wow there is an oil more expensive than Amsoil?

Why are you so dead set on changing the viscosity? Is there a price difference between Amsoil 20w50 and Amsoil 10w40?

No slipping at all. Works great. :cheers I know that Amsoil claims 10,000+ miles or whatever but you should still change it every 3,500 miles.

I live in New Brunswick Canada

Can only start riding in late april lol

Ill go with the 20w50 v twin

find the 10w40 not thick enough just my tought

10w-40 is just fine. In fact it's better since you live up in the frozen North. Why would you want a THICKER oil when it's already colder out? That doesn't make any sense. You want THINNER oil when it's cold, and thicker when its hot out.

summer here is the same as in florida lol

sorry for confusing you guys

Just wanted to make sure I can put that V twin in my Gixxer or needed a more specific oil

Been running amsoil motorcycle oil since my first oil change which i did around 280 miles. I change super often but i do some drag racing and dont want clutch debris circulation threw my motor. It has done very well for me and my bike i highly recommend it.

I will say i think the 10w 40 is better for our bikes and with the tolerances and clearances and passageways as tight as they are I dont see a point in running thicker oil unless the engine is being subject to extreme stress and heat where the thicker oil would be needed. I ran 20w 50 for my first oil change and switched to the 10w 40 after because the 20w 50 made the valvetrain slightly noisier when the engine was first started (seemed to me like the camchain was noisier) the 10w 40 is perfect so just get that trust me its good stuff.

there is a reason the engineers recommended 10w 40 and is what the bikes are filled with from the factory. they designed the motor so i would trust them.........
