\'98 750 FI\' Won\'t Start!

Hello,

Does anybody know what the problem is?
Here's what I've done so far...

I checked the dealer code...getting "Fuel pump control system" error.

I applied 12v to the the pump and it spins.

I measured voltage @ the pump (getting ~10.5).

I replace the relay just in case it was not providing enough current.

I do not have a manual yet, but will order one soon.

Is there a (hidden) sensor that I need to check?

Thanks for any help.

Check to see if the fuel pump hose is toast. There was a re-call on it back in 98. The same thing happened to mine one morning. Call the dealer and give them the ser# of your bike to see if the hose was changed before.. By the way another re-call for 98 750's are the gas tank seal(gasket) mine was just changed 2 dayz ago. Check with the dealer to see if these were changed or not. Good Luck bro

I ASSUME ITS THE "C41" CODE....."WHEN NO SIGNAL FROM FUEL PUMP RELAY......check for......fuel pump, connecting lead, power source to fuel pump relay...."

this is straight from the book, and prolly of no help..
heres some more....

Still down and out!

The first thing I checked was the fuses.

Finally got a manual of my own now (Clymers).

I would opt for the OEM next time though.

Looked for the tip-over sensor, but I don't think I have one?

I'm just about positive that the fuel pump is taking a crap. I'm going to look at it one more time, then try to find a good deal on a pump.

Anybody got one they don't need?

I'll reply when the issue is resolved.

Thanks for all the help,

Re: \'98 750 FI\' Won\'t Start!

Fixed It!!!

Pump-OK
Relay-OK
Computer-OK (Thank God! ~$1K!!!)

The problem was a loose wire or bad connection on the power lead to the pump activated by the relay.
This resulted in inadequate voltage going to the pump when the relay clicked.

Since it was intermittent, I kept pointing the finger at the wrong part!

Re-seated all connectors and the problem is gone.

I'm concerned that the bad connection could be the result of a wire partially shorting to ground, and draining my battery. This would pull down the voltage on the power supply to the fuel pump.

Will keep close tabs on the battery to see if this is the case.

Just damn glad I can ride again and it didn't cost much to resolve!!!
Who knows what the dealer would have charged.

Thanks for all your input and help. Most appreciated!
