\'90 Fork seal question...

Yeah the haynes manual sucks when it comes to changing the seals. I'm wondering how in the hell am I supposed to get the dust caps off? Did they screw on or something? Or should I just take a razor and tediously scrape them off?

And I noticed that the oil seal (which is what I wanna replace) is receeded under the dust seal... When I get them out, when I'm putting the new one in, is there any possibility of it going too far down into the tube? Or will it stop in place and go no farther?

Thanks!

Re: \'90 Fork seal question...

I'm not sure how close the 90 forks are to the 86, but I believe the dust seals are just snapped in place. Put a fine flat screwdriver under the lip and pop it off. If you're replacing it, which you usually should, it's not a big deal to damage the dust seal taking it off. Otherwise, be careful.

The oil seal shouldn't fall any deeper into the fork. If you want check my thread from a page or so back (doing the 86 fork seals). See if there's any similarities to what you're working on.
