I bought this '82 1100E as a basket-case back in '93 from an guy who took apart the engine&lost interest in the bike as he discovered it needed a crank..roller bearing cranks are not cheap.

I took it home,sent the tank&body panels to a friends to get re-painted,I stripped the frame&brackets of all paint the repainted/polished all the parts. It looked almost brand new after 6month long resoration project. I had a good running '81 1100 engine already so I bolted that right up into the frame.

I slapped a rack of 40 RS flatslides on it&rode it for the next 7yrs until I got married&started planning the building of our new house. Needless to say the old GS got put on the backburner and was forgotten about. We moved into our new house in '02 and the GS sat idle in my basement from then until now.

So what I would like to do now is a semi-restoration/updating w modern parts. I want to graft a complete GSXR-1000 front end onto the GS(either K2 or K5 1k). I also want to update the rear with a 5.5" 600 wheel(a 180 tire will fit w a 5/8" offset C/S sprocket),convert to a 530 chain/sprockets(the old 630 chain is HEAVY&not necessary on a bike that makes 90rwhp stock,this conversion saves 8lbs)replace the old worn out Marzocchi shocks with a new set,find a new set set of carbs(I sold the 40 flatslides :() and then put the old GS back on the road.

It was such a comfortable,smooth bike to ride and my wife enjoyed the pillion much more than on any of my other bikes. I miss riding it and it will be fun to be on something different&unique as compared to all the modern sportbikes on the road.

Uggh,Im trying to get to the GS but I have to finish working on 3 of my other bikes before I can do so :(

I had the same bike in candy red back in the day.
What a power house even compared to the GS1000s it replaced.
Stood it straight up the 1st week I owned it in a power wheelie.
30 years ago and it seems like yesterday!

The ES was my favorite bike in 83 - same thing as the E, only with the 1/4 fairing. I test rode and almost bought one before the seller had a change of heart.

To this day I still remember that engine spinning-up so freely and hauling ass. A bike mag likened that 1100 to a 10 000 watt lightbulb on a 1/4 rheostat.

Oddly, today, my two recent GSXR1000s (K4 and K6) don't feel as powerful as I recall that 1100 being. I guess it's cuz I was in my 20s at the time?

Can't wait to see your project.. if you ever get around to it

I see plenty of 84 1150EFs for sale cheap here in Montreal but I almost NEVER see an 83 1100 ES (I still keep an eye open from time to time)

Yup,I remember the red '82 had the sliver engine w the small crank end&the red '83 w the black engine had the large end which was/is more desireable. I also remember shearing the damn starter bolts on the left side of the crank if you dropped the clutch a bit too hard:banghead

I was never a big fan of the ES(1100/1150) as I liked the big,round headlight drawing attention to the front. Its such a classic look. My buddy Nick had a blue/white 1100ES back in the late '80s..wonder if he still has it?:scratch

The 1150 motors are still sought after, even today.
Yes,the 1100/1150 are the basis for the majority of wheelie-bar bikes you see at the dragstrip. It just takes a TON of work in the head to make them the monsters they become..and the welded/straight cut gear roller bearing cranks are fucking ridiculously expensive..they do not like ANY engine debris if something decided to let loose(ask me how I know:banghead)

I have a few things to finish up on my turbo,a few things to do to my Gen1&Gen2 Busa's and over the winter I will tackle the GS.

Heres a pic of my old 1425cc Carpenter built GS1150..was pretty quick back in the early '90s(check da purple panels lol!)

Nice bike OG...and you too Warren.

I'm looking forward to some adventures with my newly found '82 GS750. I'll post pictures soon.
