I think you are likely to spend more money rebuilding one of your motors. Based on what you say about your abilities and that you have a tool kit- not sure what that means but you will need more than a craftsman 200 piece socket set! You should have a shop, work benches, machining capability, and lots of specialty tools. Then by the time you spend all that time and money you will be plagued with running issues and possibly a motor that still doesnt run, and that would really suck. So when you add up the money you spend and likely 300+ hours to complete the motor work, you should just buy a motor that works. Wether you decide to rebuild the motor or not- start a build thread so we can see! Lets not forget that we dont even know what is wrong with the motor.

...at that point it'd be cheaper to buy a used L6:fact

Moving forward i was able to source an race engine that has low miles and will be gone thru so hopefully it will decrease my chance of it grenading on me. Thanks to the other that actually wanted to help.

EVERY person who has commented this way would ABSOLUTELY speak to you this way. YOU threw the first stone we tried to help but your not able to be helped. We have dealt with many "bet you wouldn't say that to my face" kids and it all ends the same way. Ask for help if you get it great if you cant move on kid we are all old men here. 3 of these guys probably have over 150 years of experience combined. Shoo fly

We don't tolerate threats here,so don't go down that road :nono

Were sarcastic,we break new members balls,it's a right of passage. Some have thick skin, others don't. The ones who don't will get their balls busted relentlessly.....

Obviously there is a wealth of knowledge here and many experts as well regarding each model year of GSXR...

Owning several high performance bikes, built to the hilt,I'd be weary buying a used race engine. That's all I'll say.

But you tolerate borderline abuse and all you can say is "Damn..." ?

That not a little double standards?

Yeah I've been here for some years...I've seen the 'busting balls' and sometimes its quite funny....But until you've met every single GSXR owner in the world (or would be owner)...and profiled them...You can't assume shit about someone to the level that that 750Squidiot did, and if you do I'd expect some authority to come in and dial that back a little.

Would it be cool to assume stuff about someone due to gender or colour? Yeah it's not the same, but still...C'mon that response from him was unnecessary...Could've just said "Don't do that"

IMO...OP...Working on rebuilding a multi cylinder 4 stroke to the level of precision as any Japanese sports bike engine is likely beyond any novice's ability.

I've been working on bikes for quite a few years and rebuilt a 4 stroke single out of a 125, and a few 2 stroke top ends. I've also done valve clearances on my GSXR and basic cam timing on an old Ninja.

It's not rocket science but you need high quality (some of which specialist) tools....a lot of time and patience...And you better be good at accurately measuring things with those specialist tools.

I would just take it to someone experienced or buy a used motor....Unfortunately (and in agreement with oldgixxer ) that race motor is probably going to cause you more grief than its worth.

If it wasn't recently refreshed (and why would any racer refresh a motor before selling it)...It will likely need to be....Top end at least....Springs...Retainers...Collets...Value guides...Valves themselves all could be on their last legs and you won't really know unless you open it up and strip.

Then even if you do decide to refresh...It may not contain stock components (unless it was raced in a Superstock rules type championship)...so you may have to source exotic parts.

IMO...Not worth it...but since you've pulled the plug anyway...good luck.

Abuse ? If you feel abused through the internet then the extremely fragile nature of your being should not be searching the web at all. I assumed nothing until provoked I went on what he stated in his OP and the fact that his question was already answered in an existing post that HE posted so before you get all "holyer than thou" on me read up a little and don't worry about other peoples conversations if it bothers you so much dont read it. Myself I cant stand people wasting others time when they have been given an answer. I don't know everything about bikes look at some of my simple posts... However I'm not going to argue with people when they tell me the truth. Simple fact is the world is becoming too soft where anyone is scared of saying anything because someone might get offend. I fought for freedom of speech and I will damn sure use it. If you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen. I would like to add disrespecting someones family or other loved ones in their life is crossing the line I don't agree with that online or in person. You argue among men and leave it there.

Also whats the reason for digging up an old post that hasn't been replied to in three weeks ? Just to say you deeply offended by what I said? Jump down off your horse and piss off:banana:piss:cheers

I don't feel abused not at all....Your post came across obnoxious and unnecessary...I know this is the Internet....Somehow we've gotten to the point where acting like a complete bell end is the norm and tolerated...You may have thought the question was simple or that the OP's idea was a bad one...I agree, but why go on a tirade about it and assume stuff about them that you don't know....Yeah freedom of speech....I'm exercising mine too.

Piss off...Really? Same to you.

NOW THIS! I can respect! a well thought well articulated. If more people spoke eloquently as you have, maybe I would not feel the need to go on a tirade? The OP prior post was the same thing but he started to bash people trying to help him that will NEVER go over well with me. If you cannot read and understand simple sentences then do not ask for technical help. If something is over my head and I know it I wont ask someone to walk me through it I will pay to have it done. Was my response unnecessary and counter productive? Absolutely however I'm just having a little fun and it started after he made harsh words at my mate...
