2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Review

When you're one of the most popular platforms for superbike road racing success, how do you out-do yourself? In the case of the ultra-victorious Suzuki GSX-R1000, nothing less than a ground-up overhaul was in order. The 2009 Gixxer liter machine underwent such comprehensive redesign (though it looks remarkably similar to '08) that Suzuki refers to the update as "a full model change."

Whether or not this smacks of some rightly deserved aloofness will be up to you: Essentially, Suzuki perceived the task of crafting its new liter-class missile as a challenge in delivering a bike with the performance to exceed "… its biggest rival – the current GSX-R."

The phrase "total balance" is bandied about routinely in press materials for the new bike. Integral to achieving this target of perfect symbiosis between powerplant and chassis, the 999cc mill is now all-new. Much of the engine's re-make conforms to the mandate set forth by Suzuki that "close-to-ideal" chassis dimensions are the driving force behind the heavily re-vamped liter bike.

Did you do all of the mods at once or some in a stages?

I Plan on doing fully Brocks system, PC 3/5, then prolly a +2 till my stock chain is about ready for a change, and let Brock Map the bike.
Ok got the exhaust changed with a Remap. And it really helped the bike.

Tuner said he could see and feel the hiccups in the fueling in the low and midrange when he had it on the dyno. Now the fueling is crisp and there when I ask for it. Got some very good gains in HP and Torque in the 5-8k RPM range where I can use it on the street.

Using a Brocks Full Generation 3 system and PC V. I am really happy with the Gains in the mid range and low end response is much better.

Standart 142 hp on the wheel? Why ? Is there any problem I couldn't get it..

Isn't it need to be at least 163-165hp ?
Because all Dynos read different, some read low, some read high.
I own a 04 gixxer 600 yellow and black and I am thinking of getting the new 1k (I really wish they had the yellow and black). I was looking at the specs and I was wondering why are they using the 190/50 instead of the 190/55 I thought that the 55 would be better for corners. And if I got one and put a 55 on would it really affect the turning?
They use the 190/50 probably as a general tire for stock for stability.

Honestly unless you know how to really push a bike you will not feel the difference in the two tires. Not many liter bikes come with the 55 series.
Re: 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000 question

I just got the new 09 GSXR 1000, Ive had it for 6 weeks, yesterday i was riding and everything was fine, did 168 on I295 outside of Jaxsonville.:punk
I get home, I was gonna go to the store, get some cigs, I went to start my bike and nothing. Its kicking over, fuel pump sounds normal (giving fuel to start). My fuses are fine, theres a full tank of gas and the starter kicks in, but it is not starting. Any ideas what could be wrong? I have :hammer banged my head, thinking of what it could be? Any suggestions on what it may be?

John
Was th kickstand down? If so, the bike will only start in neutral.
Did you check your kill switch?

I have seen a couple of the newer bikes do that where they used the fuel pump didn't activate till the kill switch was on.

Is the start cranking over the motor or is just clicking? If it is just clicking it sounds like a loose ground wire.
I like the way it looks... better then earlier models...
Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.
I have a '09 1k and '04 1k and idk if my 04 has problems i dont know about but there is night and day difference between the handling....
I think 10, 11s are and will be same as '09 right?
2011 will be the next upgrade.
wow would def like to get a chance to ride this bike.
well. went to look at the 09's, my local stealership only had 2 left over 08's. told me there would NOT be any 2010's made :dunno
I think you slipped up and said you dident do the first oil change so no matter what they are going to void it.my suggestion is go to another dealer ship and see what they say.but remmber to say that you did the oil change
I am really excited about this bike great bike have a great look i like its features...
