you have to make sure to have the actuator on the pressure plate adjusted properly as well. you can have slack in the cable, but still have the clutch partially disengaged if the mechanism is not adjusted properly. check your manual for proper adjustment.
you assume we all have cable ;)
Just to follow up to my post a week or two back, putting just two reaction plates back in rather than the three I had definitely made the slipper slip sooner (RESULT!) however even though the slipper adjusters were now set to 1 turn out there was no more slip in total than before and no slip under acceleration. The clutch action did seem much nicer but I had put a new cable in as well but I think the mod has defo helped as well. This kind of sharing of knowledge around the globe between fellow bike riders is what forums are all about, thanks again to all contributors of the original post and articles.
WOw great write up, I know its here if I need it. Thanks
which one is the best adjusment 2 3/4 or 2 1/4 out of turn after clutch mod....??
i set mine 2 1/4 out of full.....is it a problem...???
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I bought the parts a while ago, but wasn't comfortable with trying this. I think now it should not be a problem.

should be fine either way... the amount of slip is prefrence.. if anything set it to 2 1/4 ride it and if you want less slip then set to 2 3/4 or more.. only takes a few mins, you dont need to take the entire cover off just take the center adjustment cap off to adjust the lifters
Just did this today. Not any noticable difference, but then again my bike only has 600 miles on it. Another thing i noticed, the washer that i removed was slightly beveled. Not near as much as the replacement washer, but it was. Is this how it is? The new washer is just beveled more? Either way, bike runs great, no slipping under hard acceleration or high reving down shifts. Shit rips just like usual. Good job on the write up though, i actually found it quite a bit excessive. Ha. Thats a good thing though.

The beveling in the washer acts as a spring force on the stack, the fact that the 750 washer has a steeper bevel to it serves to reason that it exerts more spring force on the stack.....I'm guessing.
Yeah, for sure. I had just never read anything saying that the stock one was beveled, just not enough. Just wondering if thats the way it was for everyone and not a late model 06' fix.

What up big C....:eek:fftopic
well an update on my bike.. got it out finally this past weekend and it was a no go, lots of problems with the clutch.... had issues with the shift rod adjustment so next week im going to give it another go... spent a few hours adjusting it to get it right with the hydraulic setup then with about 2 3/4 out on the lifter it would slipping under gas as soon as i got up to boost... also... Took the entire clutch assembly out and inspected everything and it was all kosher so it a combination right now of the adjust screw, push rod, and lever ratio on the mc... ill get some updates next week.... had me pretty pissed off and bummed but thats what happens when you do multiple mods without testing each one before moving on.. anyway ill get to it next week and post my findings...
i did the mod 3 weeks ago.. replaced one of the steals... replaced the washer... drilled the basket.... replaced the springs with stiffer ones.... it felt 100x better for about 500 miles... and now it seems to be grabbing again very much like it was doing before (the chatter/shuddering) almost as if the clutch plates are dry. I ONLY NOTICE IT WHEN LAUNCHING THE BIKE... as if i were drag racing it. other than that it feels solid.... any ideas how to fix this problem?
sounds to me like you need to make some adjustments after you do this.. similar to what Kaz described as if he thought the cable slack was being taken up... i noticed this when i some fluid was leaking from the reservoir being forced back out ... anyhow give it an adjustment and see if it improves

I just bought an 05 GSXR 1000 and don't know a whole lot about the bike yet. I was just wondering what exactly does this mod do? Is it to improve performance in some way or is it to solve and existing problem with the clutch? Thanks.
This will get rid of the hesitation and judder if you launch at higher rpms from 1st and will basically improve the performance of the clutch...

On that note i got a chance to play with the bike again yesterday and i think i finally got all the adjustments right... my lifters are set to about 5 turns out and no more slipping... with the 2 1/4 it slipped bad anytime it came on boost and no diff on 2 3/4... im sure 5 turns is excessive but its working for now so when i get more time ill back into it more to see what the threshold is for high high hp apps
FYI... it really didnt help my situation.. im back to 900 miles on the mod and the shudder is back when launching at high rpms.. any ideas?
did you adjust the clutch afterwards.. make sure you adjust it and check the lifter pins again.. i had to go back and play around with it a bit before i got it perfect...

+1

The 750 wave washer is taller than the stock one that it replaces, so if you put the pressure plate back on with the lifter pins in the same position as stock it is doing to react differently since the 750 washer is going to be putting more spring force on the stack.

At least that seems to be the case anyway.
