Jer this mod will remove any clutch chatter you have. The 750 washer will fix the problem and the 3 extra holes in the basket help lubricate the fibers and plates. The 07-08 1k already has the holes in the basket... This mod wont hurt it will only help even if you don't have the chatter its only going to help make your fibers last longer.

Good because I was going to say that there's got to be a good reason they did something different on the 1000's instead of just using the same washer on all the bikes if it's the best for all of them. I'll butt out of your thread. lol

Did you adjust the clutch push rod after wards? ill bet its not making contact so you need to adjust it. you don't need to pull the entire right side cover off just pull the center cap off and you can adjust it from there which is easiest

I should have included more detail, the push rod is making contact through the entire pull of the lever. But the springs are binding when torqued correctly. So the push rod is unable to move. I've swapped out the EBC springs for my stockers and the clutch operates correctly. I am going to disassemble the clutch today to figure out if I possibly installed fiber 7 in the wrong place. I for sure have 8 in right as well as all the steels.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I also will reinstall the 750 washer. I thought perhaps that was the problem and replaced the stock one. I know now that the washer is not the problem with the binding.

This mod works like a charm, and I even skipped out on the drilling of the holes.

Just installed the 2006 GSXR600 spring washer (#14) into my 2005 GSXR1000. Gear changes have gone from clunky to butter smooth. Before the bike would not go into neutral sometimes, jumping between 1st and 2nd but now it is so smooth.

I did adjust the 3 set pins a little bit. They were set at 2.5 turns out and I made it 2.25 turns out as per the recommendation.

Anyone who has the problem, I just suggest you change the spring washer at your next oil change and be done with it.

Did anyone of you compare the original and the 750 washers, what is the difference between them? I have a k1 1000 which had no spring washer at all as stock but I installed one from the 2004 ZX-10r which is a different design, it has wave-shaped springs between two steel plates. Now the abrupt engagement is gone, but I have to pull the lever too far to get the clutch to fully disengage when shifting. I think that has to do with thickness of the spring element. I wonder if the 750 spring would be any slimmer.

Thanks for posting the "How to" for this mod, the pics are great and the instructions are very thorough.

I bought my K6 second-hand and dropped it in my work's car park after only owning it for five days. The car park was wet from rain. I pulled out from the bike shed and thought to myself, "That was a pretty bad take-off!", I then slowed down to go between a couple of poles, and as I feathered the clutch out to get moving again, veering to the right slightly, the rear wheel spun up, stepped out to the left and spat me off! It was very embarrassing and I've been copping $#!t for that crash ever since. The clutch lever, left hand clip on and rearset had to be replaced, and the plastics got scratched up and has bits missing out of it, aswell as cracks in the left hand mirror housing and rear indicator.

My clutch has been doing the grabby, squealing thing every now and then since I've owned it, but I've only just realised that it was most probably the reason I crashed that night. A friend at work mentioned to me, about a week ago, that another guy at work had his clutch modified under warranty when it started playing up. It's embarrassing taking off from the traffic lights sometimes(usually when turning right) when the bike lurches and squeals. I also used to have a bit of trouble going around small, slow round-abouts(we turn right here in Oz) while feathering the clutch, but the rear brake keeps control of that now.

Now, a few hundred bucks, scratches, bruises, two weeks of light headedness(I scratched up my brand new AGV ti-tech pretty well), damaged pride, and about eight months later, the pieces of the puzzle finally fit together, and although I would have rather not crashed, I'm glad that it wasn't my fault(I believe, anyway). I've been riding and driving since I was about 12 yrs old, I'm now at 35 yrs old and I've never dropped a bike coming off the line, so when I crashed that night, I was in total disbelief of what had just happened and have been for the last eight months. Now I feel vindicated and very relieved!!!

So, even though my bike is just out of warranty, hopefully I can get this mod done for free, but if not, I'll use this "how to" and save myself a few hundred bucks!

Thanks again for this thread, I've gotta get this done ASAP!!!

Others have mentioned this before, but I think it'd be good if you could add into the title or top of the thread that this mod is to fix a grabby, squealing clutch. I already new what it was for when I did a search for it, but I noticed that a few people have asked throughout the thread.

Cheers!

:wtf

Obviously a reply from a rider who wasn't pulled off his mama's tit until his teenage years. :wait Have fun being raped at the stealership, even for something as simple as adding air to your tire.

ANYWAY...I have to get a set of fibers before I set down with a couple of beers and spend some quality time with my K6, because she deserves it! :cheers Major props to the OP for taking the time to assist the rest of us who are truly grateful for your contribution. Cheers!

I've just finished this mod, and even though I've only been for a short ride through the streets, the clutch seems to feel a lot smoother. I think I'm gonna enjoying riding my bike a lot more now. It's definitely worth doing.

I used to think that the grabby clutch thing happened mostly while turning right, but I've been thinking some more, and it usually happened after I'd been sitting at the traffic lights for a while, with the bike sitting straight up, whether going straight ahead or turning. It probably never happened when turning left because there's usually a slip lane(Australia) and I didn't have to wait for any lights. So, I think the three extra oil supply holes are worth doing, aswell as the spring washer. The mechanic who modded a mates bike only drilled the holes, because Suzuki didn't mention the washer; but it fixed the problem apparently.

Thanks again to those who contributed to this tutorial!
