I had a question about adjusting the 3 pressure plate screws in the last step. You said to loosen the nuts and turn the screws all the way in until they bottom out. I wasn't quite sure what all the way in was. I turned mine in and you could feel when they first touched, but they would keep turning. As I kept turning you could see the pressure plate gradually move out. How far in are you supposed to screw them? Until they go all the way and eventually stop? Or to that initial contact before the pressure plate starts to move out? Or screw them in until they are flush with the nuts? I wasn't sure just how far to turn them in. I turned them until they first touched, but then it got a little harder as the pressure plate moved out but I could have kept turning them? Did I stop too early? I stopped when the pressure plate started moving out? I don't think I'm getting any slippage at all so I was wondering it I stopped too soon? I still have about 3 threads showing. And I measured the distance with a digital caliper before and after. THe same exact amount of threads is showing now as before the mod(2.9mm on the caliper). If I kept screwing the bolts in, would the pressure plate finally have bottomed out? Looks like that would have caused it to slip too much, since there would be no pressure on the clutch discs. Thanks for the help!

SPL,

Had a question about how you were adjusting the clutch screws on your clutch mod. When you turned them in, how far did you go? I can't figure out from the instructions if I've turned them in far enough? There is an initial point of contact? Stop there? Or keep going until it finally won't turn anymore at all? You'll even see the pressure plate move out a little? Will it get to a point where it won't turn anymore at all? I dont think I turned mine in enough? I stopped when I felt the screws first make contact and stopped turning easily. I could have kept turning them more but the pressure plate was moving out and it seemed this would cause excessive slippage.

Performance wise is all subjective, i suppose if you like to launch the bike hard of the line its an upgrade and for the avg street rider it only improves the clutch performance if you do the mod and drill the holes for extra lubrication.

Diesel its very easy. Tighten down the screw until you feel resistance, if your turning it in past the resistance point yes you will move the basket and you will cause the clutch to slip and not engage at all.

Turn it in till you feel resistance then back it out per instructions and you may see the same number of threads as before so no big deal... :cheers

Cool! Thats what I did, just feels different, like no slip at all now.
Just didn't make sense that it's doing anything at all if they weren't engaged just a little. But yes, I stopped at the point I felt the first resistance, then backed off.

Okay....

My hat is off to whoever made this, I had been procrastinating far too long, finally did it this past weekend! LOVE IT! I can launch at high revs now with NO DRAMA! I cant tell you how frustrating it was, seemed like my clutch was broken, anyone who rode my bike always commented on first gear being ruff, but it wasnt the gear it was that stupid chatter from the clutch. I really cant beleive that Suzuki didnt address this with a recall, very dissapointing!

THANKS A MILLION!

Just finished this mod-this sticky was uber helpful. But the a$$hat that did my last oil change must have cross threaded the oil drain bolt...so now I have a useless oil pan, a hadful of aluminum threads, and a bike I can't ride! AHHHH!
Anyone have a spare oil pan?LOL

I had the parts sitting in a box for almost a year before I did it, and it was well worth the effort...wish I had done this mod when I got the parts!

I did only the washer, and adjusted the clutch as mentioned, and it work flawlessly....such an improvement over how I got the bike....

hi, i have 2006 1000, and in the middle of moving so don't have tools or garage etc.. so i went to a motorcycle shop that i used before. they did the mod for me, it cost a bit, but at least it is all done. they charge me about 4 hours of labor so $300 plus parts. again its worth it to me having it done right, since i have no tools.
right away i notice how much smoother it was getting going from a stop in first, then tried a few hard launches with no chatter what so ever, so then i did a few red line first gear tests to make sure he went the correct 2 1/4 turns out, i thought if it was slipping under gas i could tell from my top speed in first, it was the same as before(98 to 100mph) so seems to be perfect.

would it be obvious if it was slipping under gas???

very well done mod.
before the mod my bike would chatter hard, and make a horrible grinding sound and vibration just from about 3000 rpm and up getting out of first.

w/o having reading all of this can someone just sum up what benefit this mod presents? Might not be a bad idea to modify the first post and say what exactly it does.

hey JER, i can tell you it made a world of a defference on my bike! but every bike is different. i dont race or anything, but it bug the hell out of me when i needed to get out fast from a stop and the clutch would chatter, then im in the middle of traffic, the bike would move slow and make this grind sound. If yours doesnt do that, then maybe you dont need it. but once i got the mod done, the bike seemed like it had a new clutch or something i can now get out of first at any rpm with all power to the ground, no problems. and i notice high rpm downshifts seem smoother!!!

My clutch and clutch lever engage perfectly so that's why I'm confused people would modify theirs. So basically this is a mod for those who have issues of some sort.

ya from what i understand, the 05-06 gsxr1000 had a clutch problem with these models, some arent noticeable and some are, like mine. Basicly i think it is a lubercation problem and that is what the extra 3 holes in the clutch basket help with, the 750 washer i dont know what that improves, but it works! i heard that the 07-08 fixed the problem!
