01 750 wheels on 96-99 750 forks, or 01 750 forks on 96-99 750 with stock wheels???

Ok i got 96-99 750 stock wheels and rotors, supposedly the 01 750 wheels are a touch narrower between the disks since the tubes are closer together in the clamps??? can anyone confirm this and how much it is? I've found conflicting info, some say they will work, some don't. I am trying to fit 01 750 forks to 96-99 750 wheels and rotors I would be using the 01 clamps upper and lower. If they are narrower can the mount on the fork be machined a little to move the calipers back out? Or would i just need to find some 96-99 clamps and stick the tubes in there and it would all fit?

Thanks!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">spacing on the 00-present rims between the rotors is 1/8 inch, if you are gonna use the 96-99 rim (or 00 600 front rim) and use the 00-present forks use the 96-99 triples with those forks, calipers, and front fender.
