It won't damage the tranny at all, but I would advise against it. On a liter bike it is much more difficult to control the throttle, you are either going to spin the rear or unload the front enough to affect steering and go wide on exit. Are you on the throttle well before the apex? I am betting you are losing to much corner speed which make the exit in second feel sluggish.
That is why nobody ride wheelies in first. It is much easier to loop. The higher the gear, the smoother your inputs are.
When I ride the mountains and there are all kinds of 10-20mph corners, I go through them at 30-40mph in second. Is it the fastest way, no. But we are talking street riding where that doesn't mean shit.
