Where does this part go?

Dropped my bike for the first time and this little rubber piece came out... can’t seem to find out where it goes... it has 41 labeled on it but I can’t seem to find it.

Re: Where does this part go?

Rubber cushion under tank, there are two - one each side - open the tank and you will see one missing in the frame towards the rear of the tank...

I’m just trying to find out HOW that managed on coming out. Is that common? Is there a need to put it back on?

Re: Where does this part go?

Yes it should be there. It prevents the tank from coming in contact with metal, which will eventually damage the tank with all the vibrations. They just pop in/out. It happens from time to time. Could have gotten partially popped out last time the tank was up. Just remove the nut at the top of the tank right behind the top triple clamp, and the tank will pivot up. These bikes come with a little prop rod to hold the tank and with its age, it is likely missing. Find something to prop the tank open with and wiggle the plug back into place.

5 minute job. Worth the time.

Don't forget you'll have to remove the riders saddle, and possibly the side skirts between the tank and saddle before the tank will rise up easily.

Good call! You can easily break them side plastics if you forget to take them off...
