Week 3 College Football Observations

1. USC is a squad of "grown men"
Displaying their power running game balanced by accurate passing, the USC Trojans displayed why they are the number one team in the nation. But as a USC fan, there are a few things I need to admit:

a) The defense plays well, but appears to be a little suspect at this point in the season. I suspect they will have some sort of a meltdown around mid season and force the offense to try to rescue them.
b) Sanchez takes too many risks when he takes off with the ball. This could cause problems if he gets hit hard on that knee.
c) USC would do well to hand the ball off 5-10 more times a game.

2. Preseason Rankings are a Colossal Waste of Time
The coaches always pick the same teams, no matter how sucky they were the year before and how many seniors they lose. Its annoying to see teams as bad as Tennessee get ranked every year only to get kicked down the ranking tree every week.

3. The SEC is NOT that Good
You'll probably see this from me every week of the observation posts. Living in ATL you'd think that every player on an SEC roster can walk on water. Every year there are 2-3 really good SEC teams... AT BEST. The rest of them are just as vulnerable to a loss week-in and week-out as any other Div-1 team. Placing half the teams of the SEC in the Top 10 every week is just stupid.

So true. Even the analysts were joking about the preseason ranking saying it's more of a discussion point than fact. Heck even the current rankings are a waste of time IMO. It's about who can run up the score the most. Good gamesmanship right there. "I'm beating you 42-0 in the 3rd but my starters are still in because more points = higher ranking."

Loved watching the Oregon/Purdue game.

Rutgers aint shit w/out Ray Rice.

LSU played North Texas. Way to go.

Notre Dame beat Michigan....both teams stink.

I gotta feeling Oklahoma is gonna keep rolling.

I have to agree with the rankings meaning jack shit right now too. Cal, god damned every year they rank Cal in the top 20 and sometimes the top ten only to find out that they suck balls. I don't know if they do this just to give the PAC 10 credit besides USC. Hell if I know, I do know that Cal sucks though.

Oklahoma looks pretty good. We'll have to see how good they are when the conference season starts.

Georgia looked really overrated this weekend but I'm not sure if that is a simple case of South Carolina having their number or not...

Re: Week 3 College Football Observations

Not only are the pre season ranking a farce but the rankings during the season can be comical at times. There are teams right now that have zero business being in the top 25 and some that are not in the top 25 that should be.

I especially love how Ohio State always seems to get a nice ranking to start the year

The pac 10 is in trouble. It's basically USC and then everybody else.

As far as Georgia is concerned, I think that South Carolina plays them tough every year. I guess when they (GA) play ASU this week we'll learn a few more things about both the pac-10 and Georgia.

The upside is I have two coworkers that are Ohio State fans... we've been giving them the business all week.

Dunno bout that. UCLA should improve next year and be on the map the year after. And Oregon has been doing well.

Re: Week 3 College Football Observations

Oregon is my fav. pac-10 team and I discovered that their QB is out for 4-6 weeks and there is not much in the way of backups. Could be a tough stretch of weeks. That's good to hear that you are giving the OSU alums their due!!!

What the hell does Oregon have to do to keep a QB healthy!!!! That really sucks for them.

OSU is one of those teams that should not be ranked in the top 25, we'll find that out soon enough.

As far as OU and Mizzou go... I hope Mizzou learned something last year and beats OU. The North will rise again!!!!!!

Re: Week 3 College Football Observations

ASU lost to UNLV last week.

Georgia is gonna put it on 'em this weekend. The dawgs are too talented, and way too physical for ASU, and they're gonna punch ASU in the mouth. Repeatedly. And I don't think ASU has enough nuts to respond.

And yes. The PAC-10 is lookin' pretty weak this year.

Re: Week 3 College Football Observations

I was at the mizzou game this weekend, graduated from there a couple years ago and want nothing more than to see them beat the hell out of OK....but if they played like they did against Buffalo they will get their asses stopped into the ground. 3 fumbles and horrid special teams day will not cut it against OK. However Chase had a hell of a game breaking the big 12 record. I see the winner of MU vs OK in the big 12 championship playing USC for the title.

Re: Week 3 College Football Observations

osu had such a good spot starting the year due to the fact that they had so many returning starters. and we went to the campionship last year. obviously if u watch football it seems like we can''t cut it in big games. thats why we were ranked early. im a fan but there isn't much room to talk. a missing runnning back wasn't our problem......
