I have just phoned them and I haven't been swizzed, they apparantly look lighter in the packaging!

hey that looks really dark from here , I am glad you knopw that it's ok now, get it on the lid and then you'll see properly

As Andy said once it's on the lid it'll be darker. BTW what is the status on that law now and how much did you fork out for it? Last I heard they were illegal for the rider bur what about the passenger?
My new lid has a clear visor but my spare that the kids use is dark.

It is still illigal but I will carry the clear with me when I go out in case I get pulled. I'd rather wear the black visor instead of sunglasses as I can use a de mistor insert in it too!

they get darker as time goes by, especially towards night time

To stop being dazzled by the sun even more, I find using duct tape over the visor helps, or just closing your eyes is a free method too
