Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

Finally got my first track day in. It was a blast!
Already looking forward to another one.
Video is pretty good minus the vibration sound from the GoPro case(cottonball it next time)
My first time editing video also, only one little mistake but didnt fix due to time it takes.
Tire purchase was a wise choice with the RS-10's Bridgestone's , love them.
Trail braking helped a bunch too.
This was my last session for the day.

Embed screwed try this

For my first track, I probably just spoiled myself.

It's smooth also. I was running my street set up and it felt pretty good.
It also has straight runoffs if you get too hot into a corner.

Re: Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

looks like the big did pretty good too. I wanted to go out there but the gf decided going to NH to visit her family and dragging me along was more important haha. Next year for sure though...and going to TSW. You planning on going to more track days next year?

Re: Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

Looked nice.
Is it just me, or judging by your tach/speedo/etc., you really weren't 'pushing' it much at all?
AND, I can certainly understand- AND- not to be uppity- 'cause- I've never had my bike on a REAL track like that. I know it was your first track day, and if it was mine too- you probaby would have been passing me!

Edit, and I could see from your vid there were many slower riders, that you were being real careful about on the entries to corners, etc.- I would have been every bit as 'non agressive', if not more so.
I can't 'afford' a dedicated track bike, etc.

Thanks for sharing

Re: Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

Man what was going on with the other riders?

I know it was level 1 but man they were going pretty damned slow, at least in comparison to the lvl 1 group I rode in at ECR.

I agree, that looked particularly slow. Thats a huge issue I encountered in the level 1 group at TWS. I want to switch to level 2 for this reason but feel that because the range of skill is so vast in level 2, Ill become one of the slowest riders in that group. COTA is on the list next year, that is if I survive another track day before I make it there. I dont have the budget for another rebuild lol oops

I'm addicted now, definitely going to TWS next year, been there many times watching friends ride bu never went out to ride it. From memory, it looked rough as a corn field. Have to get some real suspension work before going there. Holler at me when you go, I'll meet you there.

Yea, there were riders there that looked like almost new riders. Their track rider's meeting I think intimidated a bunch of people. I just tried to wait until plenty of room to pass, and get by quickly on the outside. That track has like 21 corners, way more than most, anyone who thinks they'll memorize each corner and all the turn ins in 2 sessions is going to be running off track. Some of those turns were more than 90 degree corners also.
I'll be way faster the next time I go there if I can keep my speed up and not be "people braking" every 2 minutes. By the way, my bike is my streetbike, Im on the fence about just making it a full time track bike

Like I mentioned to marcadamski, give me a shout, I'll go out too.

Re: Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

I think I'd buy myself a cheap track bike to go out there. K5 stuff is expensive to fix, I bet a single nasty crash would be the cost of a cheap bike.

Mine is a K7 but I understand what you're saying for sure.
I'd like to find a k5-k8 possibly with bad body work or damaged stuff I'd be pullling off anyway.
Not sure what size bike I want though.
I've been riding 1 litres since 2000. I really love the power, but dont know if thats what I should get.
The 750's are a pretty good balance of power to weight. I dont see myself racing.
I'll be 50 in July. I've refused to grow up and be like all the old people I see daily getting fat watching football from a couch.
Im in pretty good shape though and weigh about 165lbs.
I bought a Hardly Ableson a year ago and went right back to GSXR. I couldnt handle the loss in power, heavy weight, lack of handling etc...
Wht can I say Im a LiferSBKRider

Re: Track day vid Circuit of the Americas

@LiferSBKRider How crowded was it? Were all the level filled up?

Was just curious since it was Thanksgiving weekend. I really wanted to go but I was out of town with the family and figured there were probably a lot of other people in similar situations.

Will do man. Rode with a guy from this site at TWS earlier this year. Would be great to have more GDC members. There's plenty in TX

This summer and fall there were a bunch of people who died on motorcycles here in the ATX area...some from bad drivers, but a lot from terrible/inexperienced riding I would guess since they were single vehicle accidents. We did lose one guy in our group on MOPAC who was on a 1199 because the vehicle swerved from something in the road and hit him then fled the seen and came back later to admit guilt. There was also a patrol cop on bike who was stopping traffic for a funeral and was hit and killed by a negligent driver. Just sad that it happens so I try not to ride to much on the roads for commuting and stuff and just hit the twisties and hope for the best.

I'd get a 600. It's going to be cheaper, and you're definitely still the limiting factor when it comes to riding.
