First Track Day - Question about tyres after event. picture included.

TL;DR: newb at the track asks a question related with tyre wear and rubber accumulation.

I've went to my first track day (half-day) and it was awesome. Everything went well, I did the worst lap time, bla bla bla I don't care didn't crash, had fun, learned a few things and it's good.

Right now there is something bothering me... my tyres, BT016, those which came with the bike.

After 2 or 3, 20 minute sessions.

Since I'm a newb and I want to learn... is that accumulation/strip of rubber, from my tyre? Or bits that were grabbed during the day?

If that's mine what could be the cause?

My suspension settings are stock (probably completely wrong but hey! First track day :P give me a break), the tyre pressure was reduced by the tyre guys at the track so...

What do you pros read from this picture?

Thanks for your time on helping a noob rider!

P.S: sorry for errors. (non english speaker).

I'll post up pictures of my tires after my track weekend. I had the stock tires for my first track weekend but it was raining so I couldn't ride as hard. Although my Rosso III's don't have a strip like that. Again I'll try to post my pics when I get home from school.

It looks like a few things.

1. It looks like you are overheatig the tire. What pressures were you running hot off the track?

2. Your rear rebound is on the slow side. Get your suspension set up properly for your weight.

3. You aren't rolling on the throttle smoothly. You are waiting until the bike is almost straight up and down, and then hammering on the gas. Gradually and smoothly add throttle as you go from full lean to straight up and down.

How much do you weigh? And what is your pace?

Would the suspension still be culprit if it was only limited to the right side?

First of all, thank you for your answer.

1. Don't remember :$
2. Will do next time I'm on track. (132 lbs full gear, weight)
3. I think I did this almost every time. I still don't trust entirely on the tyres. Most of the times I tried to maintain the cornering speed and when I saw the apex (or somewhere i thought it was safe to hammer the throttle)... bam.. there she went.

the next image is just a representation of what I was doing. But you get the idea. http://i.imgur.com/sf8u7Cg.png

This next video if from an awesome lap. 1'54 (Advanced rider). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT94cj6isyY. You get the idea how a good and clean lap should be done on this track with a 1000cc.
  • Casey Stoner in 2012 (last time MotoGP was at Estoril) did 1'37 so...
  • I did... 2'52 with a 600cc... not going to the "extreme". I got last place but... I don't care just want to improve my riding.

Thanks!

Sorry guys. I logged in from another computer and I have no idea how this happened. I think I have a facebook account and a normal (register) account... my apologies. But yes... JohnJohnPT and JoaoBarreto are the same person / user.

So from this moment forward I'll try to post only as JohnJohnPT as the OP.

All good. Do you have another way to upload the pics? They did not show up on the first post.

Watch Dave Moss video on how to setup your suspension and then watch other related videos for tire wear that Dave has posted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikjw4IheeF4

California Super Bike School also has i think a 6 part series on how to ride on the track and smoothing things out.
