Zombie Thread Revivals

There have been a million of these lately. Even one from a guy who posted in the thread 8 years ago but for some reason, asks someone a question in the thread that posted back when the thread was made and has posted on the site in many years. Sam asked if he was in a coma.

There are others that are revived where someone not even in the original thread is quoted.

What the hell is going on? Are people that stupid or is something strange going on to the site? Or is Skynet becoming self aware starting with that robot dog throwing cinder blocks?

Re: Zombie Thread Revivals

The last zombie revival was a quote from the K6/7 forum posted in the K4/5 forum. Can we just ban those who bring back old-as-dirt threads for no apparent reason?

That's one argument but one OP brought back a thread from 2004 to inform that yes, he decided to plug the airbox holes and another to ask someone who hasn't been here since 2006, when the thread died what oil he decided on, seriously?

This last one used a quote from the K6/7 forum about buying a bike back from insurance to revive a stolen bike notification post in the K4/5 forum.

If the thread is brought back for more info then yes but not for the reasons these threads were brought back for. Should a thread from 2002 be revived so someone can post "thanks" in it? There is now a raging "Which oil is best" debate that died in 2006 going because someone wanted to know "what oil did they decide on" from someone who hasn't been here since 2006.

Most of the time they aren't asking new questions but commenting on a post that is 8 years old. Or asking the op how he made out with their problem. It's been 8 years, i think he got it figured out.

Does the app not show the dates of posts? And how does it explain quoting someone that isn't even in the thread. Or the guy that participated in a 8 y/o thread only to revive it by asking someone a question or commenting to someone who hasn't been on the site since 06. I mean he participated in the orginial thread so how could the app cause this?

So a person starts a thread in 2004 asking a question, then comes back 8 years later to update with "I plugged the holes" thereby reviving an 8 year old thread and it's the apps fault?

But yes, I'm all for scrapping the app that causes more problems/work than it's worth.

Just e-smack those dead-post-reviving-fools in the penor, make sure they are ridiculed sufficiently for not being "forum savvy" and warn them not to do it repeatedly. Yeah, its annoying as all hell but there arent any "rules" against it per se

I view it as forum disruption like the 7 year old "What is the best oil" argument that got started again, even though it died in 2006 because it was brought back
When the offender was called on it by myself and members, he replied "cool huh?" and I just wanted to slap him through the screen. "Technically" it's not against the rules but can be argued to be trolling, knowing it will spark debate, discussion and/or arguing as the thread dates get lost. I'm guilty of reading a page and a half before realizing it is a thread from 2003!

Re: Zombie Thread Revivals

I remember once there were some assholes going around refloating old threads on purpose. Just to piss people off. I always thought that forums should have a feature that automatically locked threads after a certain period of no replies after the last post was made. Like 6 months after no activity.

If someone wishes the old thread to be reopened, like the op resurecting a project thread, then simply notify a mod.

I see I'm not the only one who thinks this would be a good idea.

Re: Zombie Thread Revivals

Yup, I had one issue where my reply was put in a different thread, but it was clear that it did not belong there .

The others are just morons who dont know how to forum or how to internet

Re: Zombie Thread Revivals

That quote from the K6/7 forum that ended up in a dead thread in the K3/4 forum is just freaky! As for this "other" resurrecter, he has been a member since 2000.
