Thoughts?

So I've had this bike for about a month now but my brother in law and I just got around to finishing the bill of sale (was his bike) I was nervous as we hadn't discussed a price yet and I was pleased when I looked at the BOS to see he put 6200$. I'm happy with the price and it's already set in stone but just curious about y'alls thoughts. High, low, right in the middle? It's a k9 that's just about to hit 10k miles (when I took it a month ago it had 9500) I think it needs a valve adjustment but other than that it's solid.
Oh and it needs a new rear tire like yesterday but I would have done that regardless, always wanted to try pirelli dr2s

Sounds reasonable if the bike is in good shape.

What makes you think the valves are out of wack?

The first valve check is not due till 14,500 miles and usually are found to be in spec. Checking them wont hurt, just saying.

Re: Thoughts?

There's a little bit of noise coming from the top end.. I'm not sure what it is but someone at my local Yama dealer said it sounds like valves are out of spec.. I know it's not the cct cuz that's a totally different sound. I can't put my finger on what the sound is or where it's coming from. The clutch basket is a little noisy but I can't tell if that's what I'm hearing while I'm on it or what. Twice when I've shifted to second it has stuck in neutral.. maybe the clutch is going? Idk I'm not too savvy on this shit lol I plan to take it to them for a full servicing this week

Re: Thoughts?

Good to know the price is fair, any ideas what this issue could be?

Re: Thoughts?

My first guess, the guy at the Yamaha dealer isn't privy to how noisy a gsxr is.

If that's not a good enough answer for you, there could be an exhaust leak at the header/head union that would/could sound like a tick on the top end.

I'm not either hence my concern, I can't tell if it's just normal noise or if there is an issue at all. Never had a gsxr before this and I'm coming off my beginner 300 lmao I have no basis for comparison. Are they really just noisy as all hell? There's really no major loud sounds or anything I'm just not used to it perhaps

Re: Thoughts?

They are definitely noisy. More so than other brands. I'm willing to bet you're just not used to it.

Re: Thoughts?

Does it have PAIR valve blockoffs? That can be a source of top end noise if improperly installed. But the noise is normally very noticeable.

That I do not know, I doubt my brother in law does either. Is there a way to find out without getting in there? And let's just say that is the case, is it something to be concerned with? I mean like detrimental to the engine

Re: Thoughts?

The pair valve mod in itself no, I don't know if done improperly but it's a simple mod seems difficult to do wrong.

Re: Thoughts?

They make noise. Some guy said the same thing, but nope, it's just a noisy engine. It's definitely not like the K75 sewing machine, where it was so smooth that you'd sometimes have to twist the throttle to see if the thing was still running. While on the highway

Re: Thoughts?

They're beneath the airbox on top of the valve cover:

They replace a bunch of hoses and a solenoid valve. The PAIR reed valves and their screws need to be removed when the blockoff plates are installed or they will prevent the plates from sealing properly.

Simple enough, I just ordered a replacement oem air filter so I'll already be in there in a week or so anyway. Got a pic of what the reed vavles look like so I can pop the plates off (if that's been done) and check/remove them?

Re: Thoughts?

I just looked around online and it probably has the pair hose from the air box blocked or the plates done because I have an m4 on there and no cat and I have no decel pop whatsoever so we could be onto something here. now I just need to know where these reed valves and bolts are located so I can check if this has been done properly. Any videos/pictures/info is much appreciated. Part of me doesn't really care if that's where some noise is coming from as it's only for emissions, but I still wanna know if it is the source of some of the noise I can't stop thinking about lol
