Re: help me with key!

If your key is coded, then no. You need to get a replacment key direct from Suzuki I believe.

Re: help me with key!

What you need depends on what you have. If your bike has an immobilizer then you need a key with a coded chip. The simplest, but most expensive source is Suzuki. A dealer can supply a key blank with a chip (I think the part number is 37146-41G00) and might be able to get one ready to use from your VIN. Alternately you can buy a key blank with an opening for a chip on ebay for very little money. A good locksmith ought to be able to identify the chip in your existing key and supply a matching new chip for inclusion in the blank. This is in addition to cutting the blank to match your existing key. But you're going to have to find someone who is familiar with the various chip manufacturers/types and has a chip reader/programmer.

As may be apparent, you're in big trouble if you lose the last key. There are solutions if you do but they're quite expensive. Because of that, I recommend that immobilizer equipped bikes have two spare keys with one kept in a secure place like a safe deposit box.

P.S. See this.

P.P.S. The sense that I get is that a transponder/chip should cost less than $10. See this, for example.

Re: help me with key!

today i speak with a locksmith in the town and he told me that this is possible and easy: he will take my original key and after 4-5 hours he will give me my original key and new codded key who works.( this will cost me 82$) but i ask him what if i gave him a new blank key?? (i was thinking to buy on ebay to save some money) he told me that will possible and will cost 58 %. he told me that this is possible if i gave gim a blank new key who perfectly enters the bikers lock, and the key must have space for a new chip to put in there like the original key from suzuki.

my question is: is this good idea to buy i new blank key from ebay and pay the locsmith 50 dolars not 80....

is this ebay new key will perfect fit(enter) in my bike lock and all this will working ???

Re: help me with key!

I bought cheap ebay keys(not chipped ones). the metal is softer.Bends easily. Better to buy oem from suzuki,or ebay if listed oem key. Your call though.

Re: help me with key!

I would say no but I don't know. I don't even know where the chip is located on the Suzuki key as my car has it on the blade.

Re: help me with key!

"is there space in this ebay key"

Somewhat hard to tell but a close look at the area where the stem meets the head suggests that it's a disassemblable type, which probably has a cavity for a chip.

1Slowrider's comments about bending prompted some searching. Brass ought to be fairly stiff but I suspect that some manufacturers are adding lead for improved machinability and that could be the source of the softness. This is particularly suspect for Chinese products. Normally I'd recommend a blank where the stem is plated as an indication of higher quality. But brass with high lead content is oftentimes plated to limit contact with the lead. So it's a complicated issue.

But for $1.50 I have to ask why we're speculating. Why don't you buy it and have a look?
