"Compound boost"?

This guy has a CTS-V: front-engined V8 with a blower.

He stuck a turbo on waaay back in the rear to compress the intake air back up to the front and into the blower?

This is a thing?

Re: "Compound boost"?

What do you think about repairing the turbo? Many write that it is better to buy a new one. I myself have now problems with the turbocharger, and I think the best way to proceed in this situation. Already even found the website to buy and replace, but still want to save money and just make repairs

Re: "Compound boost"?

i hate rearmounts too friggin laggy coming onto boost and the response is shithouse.
good for drag cars maybe but shit for anything else.

had a mate with rear mounts to get better weight distribution, we ended up canning it because you had to be on the go pedal about mid-corner/pre apex to have the turbos spooled for corner exit, switched back to standard mount with water to air cooler, boom, insta spool was back.
exhaust gasses slow too much by the time they're at the rear of the car.

as for repairing a turbo, if the housing isn't damaged i always just throw a new balanced cartridge in and put it together, not a hard process.

Re: "Compound boost"?

I've since read that Mercedes 'Bluetec' diesel uses a little turbo feeding a big turbo for snappy response / big power. I guess it is a thing.

Although I agree with @XCSEDAN about rearmount. I recall back in the 80s, reading how you want to keep the turbos as close as you can to the action or else the entire volume of the exhaust acts like a compressor tank, taking more time to spool-up the turbo. Then throw in a car length's of the same shit on the cold air side to soften-up that too. I guess once it's all up to speed, it must make a difference.

Re: "Compound boost"?

Rear mounts are for people that cannot build a proper turbo setup. They are inferior, always.
