Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store

http://www.abc4.com/content/about_4/...RhrWCM9dQ.cspx

"SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store.

Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people."

Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms."

Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man. And many, like Danylle Julian, are still in shock from the experience. "Scary actually. Really scary. Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me."

Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. (We will update as soon as we learn new information.)

So far, police have not released the names of the suspect, the victims or the man who pulled the gun."

It's about time legal gun carriers get some good press. Undoubtedly this will get swept under the rug and ignored though.

It actually happened a few months ago so it was already swept under the rug.

This is infact why you don't take a knife to a gun fight.

Im glad to see a CCH use his gun in an appropriate manner to defuse a hostile situation.

Re: Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store

This happened earlier this week in Dallas.

http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/07...ischarges.html

"A man was in custody Tuesday after a gun that he had accidentally discharged inside a Dallas Walmart, injuring several people in the store, Dallas police said.

Dallas police identified the man as Todd Canady, 23, who faces a charge of evading arrest and injury to a child.

The shooting occurred about 9:20 p.m. Monday at the Walmart, 9301 Forest Lane.

Canady was waiting in line to check out when he reached for his wallet, his gun fell and went off.

Bullet fragments struck two children and an adult, Dallas police said Tuesday. Canady also was injured. The injuries were minor, police said.

When an off-duty officer confronted him, Canady ran from the store.

After a brief foot chase, Canady was arrested.

Authorities say he has a concealed handgun permit."

Re: Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store

It's unfortunate that events such as the tragedy in Colorado, and the actions of one whack job will effect gun laws in this country once again. I'm sick of hearing people like NYC's mayor Bloomberg talking about the need to have stiffer gun laws after the movie shooting. If there were others in the movie that were carrying, maybe this nut job wouldn't have killed so many people. This country would be a much better and safer place if more people were armed, but I doubt that will ever happen because we are a country of pussies.

CWP's are up 20% in Texas since this last tragedy and gun sales are up as well. Nothing like the possibility of stricter laws to get people to buy.

Richest, self made millionaire "moron" that you'll never meet!
Personally...I can't stand they guy!
I'm confident that sooner or later, thanks to him, I will awake to find a parking meter in my own driveway,
in an effort to once again balance the budget!
