Re: .338

I don't own one but have shot a couple. Both were Accuracy International. One was an AW and the other, just this past weekend was an AX. The AW was supressed and felt more like a .308 than a .338. The AX only had a brake on it and recoil was sharp but not much worse than an average heavy magnum rifle.

I'd love to own one but at 5 bucks a shot I couldn't afford to shoot one.

Re: .338

I got it and shot it along with others on the forum. I would say it kicks a bit less then a hunting style 308. It's a heavier 338 though as it's nearly 20pounds fully loaded. I love it shoots though. Best gun i've ever owned.

Yep, my lightweight hunting .30-06 has a much sharper kick. There IS significant recoil in your .338 but it's more of a push than a kick because of the inertia - and the brake, of course.

Re: .338

I'd say maybe it feels kinda like a heavier load in a 12 gauge

Re: .338

7.62x54R is similar to .338 & after a few shots down range you're gonna feel it. i'd chose .308 over .338 as it has plenty of energy @ hundreds of yards, if that's what you're intending to shoot. lots of hold-over & kentucky windage to hit your target. usually a fun challenge

Re: .338

.308 is a great round, but i wanted something with more energy and that was supersonic at range (long range accuracy). A .308 goes subsonic around 700-800yards with normal rounds which means accuracy from then on is affected.

Re: .338

I used to have a 375 H&H mag and a 358 Norma Mag. Both of them would dot your eye if you got too close to the scope. I have fond memories of the H&H, I once split a coyote in half from 200 yards with it. We mainly just played with them down at the river trying to see how many shots it took to split boulders in half, since there were no elephants in Illinois.
