kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

Kel-tec really has a lot of cool ideas combined with quality guns at reasonable prices. You're never going to impress the snob crowd with a kel-tec....but they always go "bang" and they can be purchased with very few $$$. The last two points go very far IMHO.

This gun really seems cool. It's a bullpup pump shotgun with two 7 round chambers (manually switched). I haven't seen an official MSRP, but rumors have it around $800. Another nice feature is an upper integral rail for picatinny rifle sites or red dot optics....as well as the lower rail for a vfg. Options are always good. The short OAL (26 in) is obviously the big draw...combined with the high round capacity (14+1).

This shotgun has been compared to the South African NEOSTEAD 2000 Bullpup Shotgun. A big difference is that the NEOSTEAD could be set to feed alternating between both the magazines. The KSG can only set to feed from the right or the left. Once the magazine is empty, the operator must use a manual switch to select the other magazine. This may appear at first glance to be disadvantage but for many people who live in areas where shotgun magazine capacity is limited by law, this feature, or lack of feature as the case may be, could allow them to legally possess the KSG.

As you can see in the photos, the shotgun features a forward picatinny rail as well as a rail under the pump handle. In all the photos published so far the KSG is shown with flip up back up iron sights.

I think Kel-Tec have another winner on their hands.

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

I'd shoot it Nothing inherently wrong with "cheap" (affordable) guns really - except the lack of snob factor of course I have a Maverick 88 and a Stevens 200 in .30-06 with a lower mid-range Bushnell scope - neither are going to win any beauty pageants but they are both reliable, rugged and effective. I'm getting <1 MOA precision from the rifle off a bipod which is more than good enough for hunting

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

Interesting. My only concern is the 'switch' for the second tube.

Yeah, I imagine most people would fumble with the switch in the heat of the moment if a bad situation required it. Although, even with a single tube it's 7+1 which is higher capacity than most pump shotguns....or at least on par with many that have an extended tube. I'd imagine that even with fumbling...it's quicker to find the switch and actuate it when compared to reloading another pump gun. I think the big draw would be for law enforcement...they can load one chamber with slugs and the other with buckshot and switch whenever they feel like.

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

If you cant handle the situation with 8 12 gauge rounds your in over your head anyway.

The 3 gun crowd and the people that think it looks cool are the only people that are going to buy this. At shot show '11 they said they are looking at $880 for msrp so it is NOT cheap.

Yeah, I'm with you on price. It's somewhere in between a decked out budget gun (rem 870 or mossberg 590) and one of the bare, pricier defense guns (benelli m2 or berretta tx4 storm). I really would have guessed they would have released it with an MSRP of $500-$600 (street price in the ~$400 range).

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

Guns normally sell quite a bit below MSRP (maybe not upon first being released.)

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

Talked to one of my distributors at the SHOT show and he said it would be about 18-24 months before it is available to the public. Seems KelTec is kind of sluggish on getting their new stuff in production.

Re: kel-tec ksg bullpup shotgun

They had a series of delays with the release of the pmr-30 (pistol that shoots .22 magnum). At last year's shot show (jan 10) they announced it would be out around Q2 of 2010 (assuming that would be a safe target date to make). Two months prior to the release date, they found out they wouldn't be able to manufacture the gun in large quantities (500/week) by their release date. They could either push the release date back to Oct/Nov or release the small numbers that they could produce. They chose to release as many as they could with their limited production and scaled up the rest of their production as quickly as they could. A lot of customers were pissed because they were promised the gun would be available, but there weren't enough out there for most people to get their hands on it. On the release date in July they churned out 25/week. By Oct they churned out 150-250/week.

Kel-tec released this apology. http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/pm...date-statement

True maybe that was a prototype model and they really weren't sure what the unit would cost to mass produce so they high balled the price to be on the safe side
