96 GSXR 1100 Rear Shock Replacement

I want to change out the rear chock on my 1996 GSXR 1100. I can get an almost brand new shock from a 17-18 GSXR 1000 very cheap. Will this shock work and be a good option. I weigh 215 pounds. If not what are my options. The factory shock is very bouncy.

Thank You

Don't know about that late model, but an 07 GSXR1000 shock is a straight drop in and they are pretty cheap on Ebay.

Thank you. Those tend to have more miles but I will check out on E-bay.

Re: 96 GSXR 1100 Rear Shock Replacement

So does anybody else know if a 2017 rear shock will work in my 1996 GSXR 1100?

If you can get the center to center distance on the shock, and free length you can compare to the OEM

Re: 96 GSXR 1100 Rear Shock Replacement

I just tried to "direct drop in" a 07 gsxr1000 shock from ebay into 1995 gsxr1100. The spring is too big to fit between the tie rods. I'm bummed!

I'm an idiot! One of the tie bars was installed backwards! Shock is installed. Plenty of space.
