Ready for another Gixxer Project

I sold orange and the honda 900rr.

Kept the BMW.

I m ready to start building a 6/11.

I have a bunch of pieces to make a good start.

Titled frame with sub frame
Banana swingarm
Fox shock w/ SRS Link
Yoshi rearsets
Rear wheel with rear brake system
Linderman Steering damper
Good gas tank that has been Por 15 lined

Just purchased

Triple clamp upper and lower
Front Forks
Front wheel
Brake rotor bolts

Basically enough to make a good roller.

Unsure yet of making it a cafe or race replica.

I have an 1100 motor but it has spun #3 rod bearing. (Bad crankshaft)

I will probably build this motor but might buy a runner if the right one come available.

Very happy to have a project again!

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

Dug thru the garage and came up with enough pieces for a roller.

This is not one bike, but parts off many bikes that I accumulated over the years.

Decided to rebuild engine with what I have.

Purchased a lightened/Balanced crank and 1117 pistons.

Still need one rod

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I have been watching Muckabucka's 6/11 build and I can't wait to start on mine.

Of all the builds that could take place on this forum, mine will be just like his, a 6/11 with white wheels.

Honest, I'm not copying you!

The roller:

I have ordered most of the needed bearings, seals and missing spacers for the roller that will keep me busy for awhile, but first I have the dreaded de-greasing/scrubbing of everything.

The motor:

I have 3 gear sets and none are great. It seems that some gears are not even available.

I did find a NOS 1st driven gear, which was one that is not available, and scooped it up.

I think I need three more gears to make a good set but will defer to a master upon his return in a week or so.

I have looked for a new oil pump but its not available either. I will disassemble the one I have to see how scarred up it is. Pieces of #3 crank bearing went through the motor so I'm not optimistic.

I want to keep this machine so I want it as right as I can get it!

Happy New Year!

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I like this. Are you going to polish the frame or paint it?

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I'm just going to clean the frame.

I painted my last gixxer frame black and really liked it.

This build will be different.

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I'm seeing handlebars on the ground here.... no clip ons? What are you seeing here as the final / eventual bike style?

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I'm leaning toward moto x bars but still undecided.

I had those same bars on a CBR900rr. It was comfortable but the bike handled like sh1t over 90MPH.

I could have played with lowering the front but went back to clip-ons.

I like these machines.

Re: Ready for another Gixxer Project

I really like this one too!!

Getting one to look like this is more then I want to spend.

I will build the roller and engine first so I have time to decide how to dress it.

All those bikes look great. They have a very unique style to me. What does 6/11 mean? What did the bike look like from the factory?

What cleaner did you use on the frame and swing arm?

Sprayed each part with Heavy Duty Simple Green and let sit.

Then scrubbed with Dawn dish soap.

Rinsed.
