Flat slider carbs with standard airbox? Possible?

ok Stupid question time.
Trying to fit 36mm RS Flat sliders to 1987 GSXR 1100 with stock airbox.

Has anyone managed to do this or with the fat sliders do I have to remove the stock airbox and fit pods?
I suspect I do in which case

I have the carbs in but the idle adjuster is in the way of the airbox.

Abandoned trying. No room and idle screw in the way.
Removed stock airbox (Fark), dual pod K&N's on the way

Hi Pete,

Yes no problem with BST carbs all of them fit 34mm up to 40mm, the issue is with fitting Mikuni flat slider carburetors with the std airbox
