Re: Oiler Big Block for sale in UK

Beware, if you buy this you may be enslaved to the thought of actually using it to build one.

Bought one in Feb 2010, seriously considered selling it at least a dozen times. 9 years and $$$$$.00 later I am just about to the point of pulling the trigger and actually starting the process to build a 1340... I hope...Sheesh...

It's an important part of the recipe...and after that, it's such a slippery slope.
I've always considered big blocks to be the holy grail of oil cooled goodness.

Machine work to prep the virgin block and then new sleeves...pistons, rods, cams, head work, big carbs, upgraded oil cooler(s), upper case machining, a good pipe...where does it end?

Or, just buy a Busa and make it an 1800cc.

I can appreciate that, especially the woman part (sorry dear wife, that's in the past for me).

However the OP (BR) likes to stuff two engines into ONE FRAME (see his picture)

Do you have any experience with a big block bike? I’ve built a 1216 GSXR/Kat motor and a 8something our of a 86/750 and a 1460 out of a gs1100 (that motor I sold before I rode it so I have no clue what it rode like). I’ve heard that using a big block kit is better for drag racing but not for street use as it heats up more and has less cooling. Just wandering if you had any experience in that game... and yes I’ve liked at that ad a few times now.. please talk me out of it!

Re: Oiler Big Block for sale in UK

Yes, I have some experience with big blocks, both oil cooled and Hayabusa.

I was alluding to the fact earlier, that these engine builds snowball...it's endless really, but fun!..you just find the next weak link.
Yeah, they are more common in race bikes, but not just drag racing. Big Papa was a 1340cc Formula USA road racer built by Yoshimura.
Extra heat can be carried away by larger oil coolers and an auxiliary cooler for the head.

On the street, you could pull some timing out of it. Compression would be a major factor too of course.
It would all depend on what you want...street legal, weekend warrior etc. We like these old dinosaurs and are willing to live with a few bad manners.

I think the block in the UK is priced well. I've thought about it myself, just so it can sit on a shelf as a spare for now. I also figured someone on that side of the pond would have scored it by now.

I’m lucky enough to have a couple people paying me to build “resto-mods” out of 1st Gens and I dig it but I really want an all out temperamental bad bitch that looks so fast sitting your afraid to get on it... full race fuel only and all the parts to fit.. as a kid I worked at a machine shop and learned enough to get myself in trouble.. I got way to much going on but..... I’ve never really made good choices! Ask my Ex🏼
