F is the model number for 1985 and G is for 1986 as per the attached pictures.
Model Numbers A.jpg
If a G model is sold in 1985 its still a 1986 bike.

Thanks Pete,

I thought that was the case but I didn't have the graphic to back it up.

I understand the frustration guys can have when the EBay ad says 1985 GSXR 750 upper, mid, belly, tank, seat or dashboard when it's clearly an 86 or 87 piece but I guess you get used to it. They'll always be 85, 86, 87, etc..

Re: 85-87 750 and 86-88 1100 Parts Interchange Info

AM I correct in assuming a front wheel from an 88 GSXR 750 will bolt onto a first gen 1100? There seems to be some confusion regarding axle dia.

Re: 85-87 750 and 86-88 1100 Parts Interchange Info

Tone - 88-93 750 front wheel is 17" with a 20mm axle, 310mm discs x 5 bolts on 86mm BCD; 85-87 750 is 18" w/ 300mm discs x 5 bolts on 81mm BCD and 85-86 uses a 15mm axle with 87 using a 17mm. 86 LTD has 18" w/ 310 discsx5boltsx 81mmBCD and 15mm axle.
So you can do it with appropriate bearings to mate 88 wheel with earlier axle, 88 rotors, appropriate 85-87 inner & outer spacers & speedo box and machined 5mm spacers for calipers unless LTD.
PS - best to put other questions like this in a new thread, not interchange reference thread.
PPS - I have no info on the 88 wheel bearing dimensions (or 85-87 750 for that matter, just the 86-88 1100) - are you sure they are 20x47x14?

Actually, my scoot has an 87 1100 front end, rims, and swingarm/shock on it. I guess I gotta shop for bearings, and it should fit.

Re: 85-87 750 and 86-88 1100 Parts Interchange Info

Sourcing some mirrors for my '85 restoration, it appears the OEM pod shaped mirrors have long been discontinued from Suzuki. I have some copy EMGO mirrors but the range of adjustment is very limited - great view of your elbows though.

So, after a bit of research the Suzuki GS1200SS mirrors looked the same pod shape, with the stalk being a little bit longer. Ordered the only L/H mirror in stock at Suzuki NZ and fitted to bike - same bolt positions. Being OEM, it has great range of adjustment and with the stalk being 25mm longer, it provides perfect rear view.

R/H mirror now on back-order from Japan

Nice!

I'll have to see if I can get a set for my bikes.

I've got a set of clip-on mirrors that Ozboy turned me onto. The factory ones are as you noted, only good for seeing your elbows and the clip-on mirrors are much better but those look like a very good replacement option.

Hey Andrew, not sure what countries got the GS1200SS, but if you need part numbers or help sourcing them, give me a P.M.

Cheers,

Rog

Thanks Rog, will do. As far as I can tell from a cursory look, we didn't get that bike.

It appears all 1st Gens ('85 - '87 750 and '86 - '88 1100) used the same Alternator.

Re: 85-87 750 and 86-88 1100 Parts Interchange Info

Hello everybody,

I need a little help:
Which type of tachometer (RPM) is fully compatible for 1988's 1100 GSX-R?
(i search which start of zero RPM)

Maybe another old 750ccm gsxr's, or newer types (GSX, GSX-R)?

Thanks
