little help.. fairings

Putting my auctmart fairings on, put the back all together and it came out awesome, decided to tackle the front and got it all together as well, except the black under part and I'm a little lost on how it goes now. I did this on sunday and couldn't finish, I have the sides together (that was hard snapping those together as well)

I'm a little confused on the black plastic that goes under neath the front some how. Any help?

Thanks!

Re: little help.. fairings

Not sure if this is helpful, I've got a L6 750 and it's been a while since mine have been off, but I believe I had my inner side pieces attached to the side fairings while off the bike, installed those on the bike, then finished with the middle upper piece.

When in doubt, youtube should have an answer or at least give you a good idea of what to do.

Goodluck

Re: little help.. fairings

I've forgotten the exact details but XBD's right. The two under inner cowls attach to the side cowls after the side cowls are attached to the under cowls (but before any of that is installed on the bike). If you look at the Inner Cowling in the parts fiche, you'll see a tab on the outside of the left under inner cowl (basically in the middle). It inserts and locks into a slot on the inside of the side cowl. There also are some tabs that engage the front of the side cowl. It's essentially the same on the opposite side. Beware that it's hard to undo things once that center tab has locked in place. As I recall, the oil cooler grill, aka under center cowl, gets attached to the right side cowling at this time. See the Side Cowling and Under Cowling fiches for a bit more information. The cowling installation page 10-30 in the service manual ought to also help.

The center part, aka body cowl cover, snaps onto the underside of the front cowling after it is installed. There are a couple push pin clips that keep it in place at the front.

Once the body cowl cover is in place, install the under cowl/side cowl/under inner cowl assemblies on each side. There's some finagling required to get the under center cowl (now part of the right side cowling) to engage the left side cowling, all the while getting the under inner cowling to line up with the body cowl cover.

The Inner Cowling fiche shows two plastic stick-on clamps. Such clamps are used for guiding the fuel drain lines but I've never been able to figure out what, if any, purpose they serve up around the inner cowling.

Re: little help.. fairings

Thanks a bunch guys, I guess I'll take pictures if I get stuck this weekend.
Only thing I keep thinking about, is I had the side fairings off my bike (the oem ones) tons of times now and never once remember separating them from that black center plastic.

^They attach, but not by much. Just a tab and some push pin clips. You can see as much in the 10-30 figure.

Re: little help.. fairings

^They're referred to as the under cowl cover and attach near the top of the under cowling. The OEM parts were replaced by a redesign (minor) for the frame brace recall.

Re: little help.. fairings

Thanks, I'm finally done. They actually attached to the side fairings. As I was waiting for a reply I was looking at my old fairings trying to figure out where they went and sure enough beyond the dirt and muck of the inside of the side fairings I saw these plastic pieces attached to them.
I copied the same thing and installed them.

Took a long time installing these fairings. As a complete 100% noob, I'm proud of myself. I never installed fairings before. Installing the front was a PITA though. I'm gonna give a full review soon.

THanks all!

Sorry just saw your thread here. How is the fairing? Could you post some nice pictures of your bike?

Re: little help.. fairings

lol really? I wrote a complete review already, I used the same thread I originally made regarding the fairings, I think you were even in that thread.

Here is the link.
I said from the beginning you guys would get an honest review and I gave one, 4.8 out of 5 stars and I would buy again from you guys.

see this thread.
