Can You Turn A 1000 Into A 600?

So, you've decided that riding a motorcycle is for but where to start. Most knowledgeable riders will steer you towards a good starter bike and that does not include RR's, SS, Bullet bikes, Crotch rockets or Street legal race bikes. Suzuki now offers the mode selection or S-DMS and some will try to tell you that a 1000 can be a 1000/750/600 with the push of a button. That a 750 can be a 750, 500, 250 and a 600 can be a 600/300/150 or whatever. Maybe you have even seen this video that outright states that a 1000 can be a 1000/750/600 (skip to :55):

This has become so legendary that Mythbusters put it to a test. Can a 1000 be made into a 600?

Don't lie, you knew this all along but it does justify a noob buying a 1000 as a first bike.

The reason for B/C mode is for track use, I don't think it was ever intended to make your bike safe to ride on the street for a newbie.

If Suzuki really intended that why wouldn't they limit the power even more in C mode and also have it remember the mode setting rather than reset to A each time you turn it on?

The mode selector is for track/road conditions and weather. It was never intended to be a nanny for new, inexperienced riders and as you mention, it has to be re-set for b/c mode every time the bike is started. This whole a 1000 is a 100/750/600 crap has been going since it was introduced, in 2008 on the 600/750's and earlier for the 1000's and has been used as an excuse to start on an RR and new riders asking if the S-DMS doesn't make it OK to start on an RR bike. As has been mentioned, HP/torque is just one of several factors not to start on a RR bike. The bikes even come with a tag hanger on the bike that says "this bike is for experienced riders."
