Just came in yesterday and today. I promised a review of the Teknics Sport Pants, new for 06. So, here it is!
First Ride:
SInce they are brand new, yes, they do need a little breaking in. I was told through NewEnough that they fit like your regular sized jeans, but I wear anywhere from a 30-32. I decided that I would go with the 32s, simply because I knew that when you ride they tighten up to fit properly. I am glad that I got the 32s when in riding position the knees pad come perfectly into place and the pucks go right below the knees.
They are very comfortable, but are made like most racing pants, coming above the belly button is common to protect the hips and kidneys. Unfortunately, if you plan on using these pants for racing, you will need to get some hip and tail pads because they are not integrated into the pants. The only padding is the knee pads, which is very protective and comfortable.
The construction, stiching, and zippers are very strong and secure. All seams look to be taken care of meticulously, and the weight of the leather is very heavy. They are said to be 1.2 - 1.4 mm thick. There is great ventilation on both, the back of the calves and crotch areas. I rode today, mind you in western PA, where it was 30-40 something today, and I was not a bit cold with these pants on. Another plus is the fact that there in a removable liner that can be washed regularly and is very comfortable, even without shorts on underneath them.
Overall, I realize that I only have one ride in with these pants, but I am very pleased so far. I plan on getting a jacket that will zip in to make a 1 piece suit for the track, where I can really test these pants out. I can post more pics of anything specific if youd like. Just let me know if you have any questions. Once I get a chance to really ride in them I can add another review.
Now all I need is a pair of boots that will protect my ankles and shins.
