Goat Skin vs. Cow Hide......

Looking at a couple of suits and just want to know the pros and cons of Goatskin and cowhide. I would guess that cowhide is considerably tougher but I just want good protection for street riding no track situations.

Your input is appriceated.

Thanks,

Hey in a weird way this is right up my alley, I gre up raising goats.

But you will pay more for goat skin, alot more. There is a much larger market for cow, and cow is a little tougher too.

Goat is very a very supple soft leather, but good enough cow leather can have almost the same qualities.

Re: Goat Skin vs. Cow Hide......

Twins, I think its usually the other way around when it comes to leathers. I have a set of AGV leathers that are Goatskin and I just bought a set of Alpinestars that are cowhide. I paid alot more for the AStars suit, it's heavier and seems to be a lot more protective. That being said my AGV suit is okay, the jacket is nice once you get it broke in but until then its real stiff. However, I never felt unsafe in my AGV leathers, even at the track.

This is just my personal experience though.

Hmmm, I can't recall any highend maker that uses goatskin...in fact, some makers breed their own cattle, just for the hides to make leathers..

Sorry, I was kind of geeking out and talking of the market as whole, not a set of leathers.

Re: Goat Skin vs. Cow Hide......

what are you guys talking about? Goat skin is tougher than cowhide. Teknic speedstar suit comes in goat skin. Goat skin has been found to be lighter and more abrasion tough than cowhide. If you want something even stronger, and you don't mind, cordura is a very strong material. It's about 5 to ten times stronger. www.aerostitch.com makes suits in one piece and two piece. It also has viscoelastic foam padding which is safer than hard armor. There was a test done once where they took the memory foam and put it voer a glass bottle. The foam was then struck with a hammer. The bottle did not break. They put the harder armor over it and the bottle broke. Which would you rather have?
