How to flush my coolant system? Engine Ice?

My bike has been running pretty hot recently and I dont know how old the coolant is, so I want to flush it all out. Im wondering if I shoud use just regular green anti-freeze or something else. I have heard of the purple Engine Ice, but I dont know if it is compatible w/my bike or if it is worth the $40/gallon.

Re: How to flush my coolant system? Engine Ice?

i was gonna get some engine ice for my srad next time i flush the fluids.

i notice that my bike too does run hot. yea, its normal. here it runs about 225-235 in traffic. fan turns on at 225. if im just cruising on the freeway it runs about 180-190 at about 60mph. yea get engine ice. my friend uses it in his bike, and he also did a fan switch mod on his bike so the fan is controllable w/ a switch he rigged up. he tells me that his bike never runs higher than 200 even in traffic.

Is there any problem w/compatability? I dont want to put something in that may cause any problems. Is it just regular green that comes stock?

It's compatible with aluminum block engines. It does run a few degrees cooler. It just takes a little bit longer for the fan to kick on in traffic.

Re: How to flush my coolant system? Engine Ice?

The only time I was getting worried was when it was approaching 240 and the fan was going like crazy and not seeming to be making a difference.
I may go ahead and get some engine ice this time. Does anyone know off hand how much I would need? It comes in 1/2 gallon bottles @ the stealership. Do we have a thermostat also?

I used just over 1 bottle. I'm not sure if you can top it off with water or not. Maybe somebody else can chime in about that.

As far as flushing out the cooling system. Walmart has garden hose adapter to hook up to your radiator. I found this was the cheapest way to do it.

I read on their site that it is already pre mixed. I think I am going to just use regular anti freeze this time and see how that does, then I will also know exactly when it was changed and how old it is. What is the best way to clean out the overflow bottle?

would you know exactly how to hook up a switch to turn the fan on? It seems like my fan never comes on. not even at 220

I use engine ice & my bike hasn't reached above 240ish, where before it used to get up to 250ish. Think I used about a 1/2 gallon (1 bottle). How often should you flush & change your coolant?

Do you know where to get better aftermarket fans that fit? What's the price range?:confused

Just a suggestion but somethign you might try is Water Wetter if you haven't already, you just add it to you mixture and it's suppost to drop the temp up to 30 degrees. I have it in my bike and it never gets above 220 in traffic.

Here's their site and it explains how it works.

Muzzy makes a fan for our bike had to modify it slighly to have it not interfere with the cage. now it cools the bike so fast and it's a lot quiter then OEM. water wetter works wonders too

PS Check you OEM fan blades mine melted!!!!

Yeah I have an Aluminum fan too. 35.95 for the fan blade off Muzzys site so it's not too bad.

I tried that Ice crap. Didnt work as well as Water wetter mixed with just water, not anti freeze.
