pep up a 2k 750

hey kiddos. i was a little curious, i would like a little more power out of my 750. it's great, i love it, but, i'unno, i just would like a little more. i've been thinking of the power commander, but, is there anything else? i have a ... custom exhaust, so that's out. like, can i get headers? will it really matter?

what is a great way to just get more out of my bike. I know i'm not using it to it's fullest potential yet, so as i ride, i'll learn more, so maybe the best advice may be to just keep learning?

and if that's the best advice, what's the best way to get more speed/power out of my bike? like what can i do? please, don't just say "learn throttle controll/ learn clutch controll" how can i learn these? i honestly can't afford track days, nor do they come to central illinois. so, what am i looking for? or, is there a book or school in illinois, or the central midwest (any of the surrounding states).

thanks chaps!!

Re: pep up a 2k 750

Sell your 2k750 and buy a new one. Voila, 5 more horsepower!

Or you could tell us what a "custom exhaust" means. Does that mean you have a full system. If you do take it to a dyno shop and get a custom map done.

520 conversion -1F +2R
Full Exhaust
Akrapovic Full EVOLUTION Exhaust System
Ti-Force Full Titanium Oval Exhaust System
Arrow Full Exhaust System
Yoshimura JAPAN full system
these are the BEST for HP and smoothness.

PCIII-R
Mapped on a dyno
5 way valve job
Web Cams
Yosh buckets
shaved head - only enough to run 92-93 pump gas OR thinner head gasket
balenced crank
Ti rods
ceramic bearings

That should give you enough to do for now.......................

No way would i go to a 520 chain on a street driven bike, some may say it help i say its a waste...., I dont know if there is a best when it comes to exhaust they all have their advantages and disadvantages. and all these other mods are some someone with an unlimited budget.... many of those things are rather expensive... if your on a budget and have about 500.00 do the 1000 cam install, install the 1000 intake cam on the intake side of the 750 and move the 750 intake to the exhaust, generally you will see mid to low 130s hp with this, a tune and full exhaust, thats a good 12-15hp over stock and it will run better than most N/A 1000s with stock pistons , and unless you doing something drastic, balancing your crank and stuff is not worth it at all!

Hey he asked, so I gave.

520 is really a great thing to do. the DID erv is lighter and stronger than the stock chain, also different gearing will make it FEEL like you have more power. Those exhaust have proven themselves through the years.

Re: pep up a 2k 750

my custom exhaust is the stock pipe and can, but it's been gutted. i like it, a lot. i am copying those things down for an isurance scam ... i mean. money making venture. but, untill then, i am going to look into that 1000 cam swap.

is a power commander worth my money?

and, i'm not sellin' this bike. it's sexy. and, i don't have the money for a whole new one. if i did, i'd prolly get an R1, or something ungodly, like a zx12. mmmm, then bore it out, then race cams, nitrous, and a casket for the death.

I've got power commander if you need one.

Also, I got a TRE mod from fuelmoto on ebay, it is worth the $30. Very peppy after the install.

Re: pep up a 2k 750

You say you don't have money for a bigger bike, but you are talking a lot of money for the upgrades, and also why do you consider an r1 or zx12 ungodly, I have seen several run and have never been impressed. If I had all this money to upgrade something I would go to a gsxr1000 and do a few mods to it. With the 750 you are looking at spending a few grand and gaining 30 horse, sell, buy a 1000 for a little more than you get spend a grand and have 160+ horse. That's just how I feel, I know many may disagree, but just write your own opinion.

Re: pep up a 2k 750

Sorry mojo, I read your post wrong, I see it says if you had that money. As far as mods, just get an exhaust, power commander and a k&n. Those are the usual mods. It will gain you a few horse. I had a tre one my 600 and couldn't tell much difference, some ppl say it hurt them. The exhauss are mostly your own prference, I like two bros and jardine. I still ask though why do you think the r1 and the zx12 are so bad?

Re: pep up a 2k 750

the r1 and zx12's are fast. tire spinning wheelie popping fast. i don't have the experience right now to ride something like them, that's all. hell, my 750 can get a little unruly sometimes. It's just what others have said. i know a few people that own them.

and, i am impressed by them.

but, i have an exhaust, and i'm looking at a power commander. The next oil change i go in for, i will also get the air filter. But, as far as if i had the money, i'd just throw a 1000 motor in this one. anywhom.

what's a 520 chain though? what does it do? how does it improve performance?

Re: pep up a 2k 750

520 will work fine. I have a Regina 520 on both my 02 750's one street, one race. Both hold up fine. Also know of 1k's and 520's doing fine.

If you want a bit more than a PC and full pipe (worth 5-10hp). Your only real option is motor work.

But a cheap "trick" to help acceleration is to add a few teeth to the rear or drop one up front. NO hp gains but your bike will hit the power band sooner

Re: pep up a 2k 750

how do you remove the teeth? where from? the sprockets i presume.
is it safe? how does it increase the wear and tear on the bike?

Re: pep up a 2k 750

You remove teeth by buying a different size sprocket, it is safe. Going down in front or up in the back makes more acc., up in front or down in back gives more top speed(if you have the bike to pull it). As for the r1 and zx12, I have ridden with some of them and have never been realy impressed, I know they pull my 750, but not by a lot. On the track I have not seen an r1 that was faster than most 750's, I know they are out there, just not many around here that are faster on the strip. If I wanted a big bike I would stay suzuki, 03 1000 or a busa, from what I have seen, they are the way to go for speed.

Re: pep up a 2k 750

According to his speedo he is going 205mph, actual speed 16o 'ish likely.

-1/+3 is just overkill for the street. At 70mph on the highway your bike will be reving much higher than it ever needs to be.

one or the other is fine for street use.
