Blown 750 00\', Bringing her back...
This weekend my 00’ 750 GSXR engine blew on the highway. There’s a rod knocking around in there, and the engine is toast. Anyway, I’m not about to be caught without a bike when spring arrives. I’m looking to buy a used engine and swap the blown one out. In regards to this, I’ve got a couple of questions about what my options might be:
1. At the least, I’m putting a 750 engine back in. No 600. However, it is possible to fit a 1000 in my 750 frame without major modifications? I tried to search for info on this, but couldn’t find much. I don’t know if a 1000 engine is a bolt-in for my 750.
2. A local mechanic said it would be from $500.00 and up for a rebuild. Would it be better to pay for a rebuild, or swap a used engine if they cost about the same? I’d be doing the swap myself if I bought a used engine, but I can’t rebuild one myself. I wouldn’t know where to start with the boring, decking, etc. Are these engines generally receptive to rebuilds?
Anyway, it’s been a pretty crappy weekend for the above reason. I’m hoping that the road to recovery will be a swift one. I’d appreciate anybody lending their experience towards helping my researching this stuff.
Thanks,
Andrew
