00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

I bought it has a project bike. Carbs keep flooding into cylinders. Cleaned the carbs and changed the orings on the seats. And its still doing it. So I disconnected the fuel tank and bottle fed it with a funnel and hose. The bowls fill up and the extra fuel stays in the funnel.Which means the needles and seats are working. Once I try to start it, it feeds to much gas in and fills up the breather hoses and cylinders. ?????

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

Is the fuel coming out the main air jet too or just the floor of the venturi?
Where did you get the orings? are you SURE they are the right size?
So its holding pressure thats gravity fed but not pump pressure. Right?
Someone try to attach an aftermarket fuel pump with too much psi? only takes 2-3 psi.

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

I don't think its coming out of the main air jet. I sized up the oring with a miscellaneous oring kit, which im going to recheck. Yes its holds pressure with gravity fed until you try starting it, then sends to much fuel through. Same when the tank is hooked up, only floods out when you try starting it. Carbs are clean. Thought of replacing the needles and seats??

It does appear that someone had the fuel pump out before. Instead of using a new gasket they used some gasket maker

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

Could be the orings, I had a tough time until I started replacing every one every time with genuine mikuni orings.
Check the tips of the needles for grooves.
Gould be the pump? Too much psi?

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

It almost sounds like it floods even with the bottle connected once he tries to start it...
Am I not reading this correct?

You might be right John, Imight have read it wrong....now it looks like he is saying that :
its holds pressure with gravity fed until you try starting it, then sends to much fuel through. Same when the tank is hooked up, only floods out when you try starting it......so I am going with needle/seat replacement and correct float setting

That's correct. Sorry I should of explained it better. Should I go with aftermarket needle/seat or oem? The oem seems expensive compared to aftermarket.

CCM, how often have you seen the spring inside the needle go bad and not hold pressure?
I have not done much for carb work, but I am always shocked at how well they hold up.

I didn't think that spring did much. Thought it was positive pressure from float onto needle that kept it shut.

Oh DJ, I have not idea how much that spring does... I just wanted to know... Such a small spring and I have never seen one fail myself...

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

Ok....Well changed the needle/seats and adjusted the floats. Still doing it. I noticed fuel squirting out the air jets of carb 1&2 mostly . I can't figure it out.

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

The floats still sound like they are not shutting off properly. Could be contaminated fuel. I ended up putting in an inline fuel filter between the tank and carbs

They introduce air to lean the mixture at certain points of the rev range. Contact ccmhunt our resident carb guru for the best advice.

Re: 00 gsxr 600 carbs flooding!!!

So after many attemps going thru the carbs and still no results. I purchased a used set off a 98 gsxr 600 for $100. I was told from the bike shop they worked fine, that the bike was converted to a 750. After I got them I noticed these extra hoses, which mine does not have and I didnt notice them on others online. What are they for? Should I just use my bowls off the other carbs?
