Yeah,

I just want to know if my BT-023's are acceptable for a novice pace on the track. I'm not completely clueless as to the ways of the track but, like I said before, no motorcycle experience.

It's possible, but I wouldn't run a touring tire personally.

At your pace you'll be fine.....it's when you're in fast group you need to start worrying about race compound tyres!

I like having peace of mind when it comes to tires. If I have to think about my tires when I'm riding, it's no bueno. If I was to run a touring tire on the track, I would be second guessing a lot of stuff. Just a lot to do with grip and tire material. If you are in the more beginning group I think it would be ok, just depends on your speed and lean angle. I'm not sure what defines novice for you. Assuming you're not full on racer or something.
Plus it's not really recommended to run warmers on those tires and I don't like to waste time taking a lap or two to make sure they are warmed up.

Not saying you have to go out and buy a racing tire or anything like that, so don't get me wrong there.
I was running pilot power 2ct's and it was fine. I'm really interested in either getting the power 3's or the power super sport. Still have to do some more research and see how much more street riding i'm going to be doing.
I will likely go with the power 3 though.

You will be fine. I have an instructing buddy that coaches in the Intermediate group on ST tires.

They will get up to temp quicker and you won't have to worry about tire warmers...and they will provide plenty of grip for the pace you will be running.

I have seen people take corners dragging knee on pilot roads before, so it's definitely something that you can do.

Must be the marketing or something, but you can go REALLY fast on ST tires.

I won't be running warmers, that's for sure. What you are saying makes sense though. In the car I'm in the intermediate group (third from slowest), so I have a fair bit of knowledge about driving. I'm sure some things will carry over to make me a bit faster but obviously they're very different. Probably faster than a complete noob but by how much, I don't know.

Nice. Thanks for the info guys. I'll be doing Keigwins @ The Track at Laguna Seca at least a couple times this year.

Oh yeah it's WAY different from a car. If you've never done a track day before, I would look at the slower groups so that you can get a feel for it and them move up from there if you need to. Not sure how the organization you're going through does it, but ones I have done have A, B, and C group.
A for race speeds/ a lot of skill. B for intermediate riders who go at faster speeds and know what they are doing. C for newer track riders, little slower paced, getting used to it, etc.

Jealous! I would love to get out to Laguna sometime. I'm gonna be hitting up a lot of tracking in Texas this year. I'll get to see how those ones are.

Yep. I have done so on a 600lb Triumph ST with saddelbags loaded, on BT-021 tires.
